Fred and I went to an old plantation today and I can honestly say I've got a bad case of the puzzles.
Fred hunted with the Manticore as usual and I took both the F75 with the 5" DD coil and the Equinox with the Coiltek 10x5. I started hunting with the F75 and within 30 minutes I had dug not one but two wheat pennies, a 1918 and a 1954. I was using the 5" coil, 3 tones, sens at 88, discrimination at 0. Both of these pennies gave a very good 4 way audio. Really couldn't believe it because both the Equinox and Manticore had hunted tirelessly in this area and I was sure it was hunted out. Well anyway, as a test I decided to bury a clad dime in the same area where one of the pennies was at. Nice area at 8" deep and compacted to dirt good and tried the F75 and no issues as long as the coil was directly over the dime, but.
Neither the Manticore or Equinox would give a good enough audio to prompt us to dig. The ID on both detectors had been pulled down well over half of what a dime should indicate. Fred was doubting that a dime was there so we dug it up and then reburied it at 6.5" deep and still the F75 had no problem but both other detectors failed miserably. Spent a lot of time after this pondering the occurrence. I know what is going on but also understand the 5" coil is the ticket to successfully recover at this location. The ground at this site comes alive with low volume iron grunts. One more thing I would like to add is that turning up the sensitivity at this site degrades the audio to an extent almost nothing can be found.
In addition to this the coil needs to be scrubbing the ground. The only other site that exhibits the same type anomalies is one of the old schools where the waste, from coal burning furnaces have been discarded on the school grounds for decades. Not me but Tom, "you don't know what you're missing if you don't know it's there" Well or something like that

All,

I'm still trying to get this working. I think the MAIN problem is the performance of the web server. This site is on a shared server, meaning many other site are on the same IP address and the server sorts it out. I think that the server is overloaded and that the Security Certificate is not up to date, although I have paid for the latest Security Certificate. I have been using the same server since 2008, maybe it is time to change it. I have a trouble ticket in, let's see if that helps. I'm sorry I have not had a lot of time to deal with these issues, I have a lot going on right now. I will work on this as I have the opportunity.
Do any one know if there is a battery that will work in each side of the 7a with out useing 6 AA on each side. I love this detector, but 12 AAs is a bit heavy and cost. If their is a rechargeable pack or cell that could fit would be better maybe, i may be wrong, I know the detector balance well like it is. Thanks for any help. flintstone

I have a close friend who is a Vietnam vet. He has been working on the Jennings cemetery where he knows there are many unmarked graves from years past. His desire is to set a grave marker with a "J" over each unmarked grave before is own passing. He attempted to hire a person with ground penetrating radar to mark areas where the ground has been disturbed but the cost was out of his reach. He hired a man to dowse the area but only found a couple areas. He ask me to come and dowse the areas and see if I got the same results at the prior person did (I'm no dowser but I have tried it a few times with 50/50 success rate. He has been working on this major project for several decades and historical records over 150 years ago are almost non-existent. I'm willing to help him if at all possible but I guess I need ideas.

Can you actually rent a ground penetrating device that would locate disturbed ground?
Options?

Quiet here lately, but to all those who 'tune in" a happy and prosperous new year. and as punishment for your patience you get a thousand year old story of "the Old ways".

Time for me to bore everyone with my favorite Yuletide story..
"God Jul og godt Nyttår'
I find it to be a time to think of other, sometimes older traditions such as yule - the germano/scandinavian midwinter festival. The tradition of eating, drinking with no holding back, trusting that the gods - so honored - will grant a prosperous new year - with new flocks and crops - to replace that which had been consumed - and more - it takes place in Brattalid in West Greenland - the setllement of Erik the Red, father of Leif Eriksson - in 1005 AD. Here is the translation from Erik the Red's Saga. This is history. This really happened, it's not from a fairy tale or Game of Thrones.
------------------------
There was a man named Thorfinn Karlsefni, son of Thord Horsehead, who dwelt in the north (of Iceland), at Reynines in Skagafjordr, as it is now called. Karlsefni was a man of good family, and very rich. His mother's name was Thorun. He engaged in trading journeys, and seemed a goodly, bold, and gallant traveller.
One summer Karlsefni prepared his ship, intending to go to Greenland. Snorri, Thorbrand's son, from Alptafjordr, resolved to travel with him, and there were thirty men in the company.
There was a man named Bjarni, Grimolf's son, a man of Breidafjordr (Broadfirth); another called Thorhall, son of Gamli, a man from the east of Iceland. They prepared their ship the very same summer as Karlsefni, with intent also to go to Greenland. They had in the ship forty men.
The two ships launched out into the open sea as soon as they were ready. It is not recorded how long a voyage they had. But, after this, I have to tell you that both these ships came to Eiriksfjordr about autumn.
Eirik rode down to the ships with other men of the land, and a market-fair was promptly instituted. The captains invited Gudrid to take such of the merchandise as she wished, and Eirik displayed on his part much magnificence in return, inasmuch as he invited both these ships' companies home with him to pass the winter in Brattahlid. The merchants accepted the invitation, and went home with Eirik. Afterwards their merchandise was removed to Brattahlid, where a good and large outhouse was not lacking in which to store the goods. The merchants were well pleased to stay with Eirik during the winter.
When now Yule was drawing nigh, Eirik began to look more gloomy than he was wont to be.
Presently Karlsefni entered into conversation with him, and said, "Art thou in trouble, Eirik? it appears to me that thou art somewhat more taciturn than thou hast been; still thou helpest us with much liberality, and we are bound to reward thee according as we have means thereto. Say now what causes thy cheerlessness."
Eirik answered, "You receive hospitality well, and like worthy men. Now, I have no mind that our intercourse together should be expensive to you; but so it is, that it will seem to me an ill thing if it is heard that you never spent a worse Yule than this, just now beginning, when Eirik the Red entertained you at Brattahlid, in Greenland."
Karlsefni answered, "It must not come to such a pass; we have in our ships malt, meal, and corn, and you have right and title to take therefrom whatever you wish, and to make your entertainment such as consorts with your munificence."
And Eirik accepted the offer. Then was preparation made for the Yule-feast, and so magnificent was it that the men thought they had scarcely ever seen so grand a feast.
And after Yule, Karlsefni broached to Eirik the subject of a marriage with Gudrid, which he thought might be under Eirik's control, and the woman appeared to him to be both beautiful and of excellent understanding. Eirik answered and said, that for his part he would willingly undertake his suit, and said, moreover, that she was worthy of a good match. It is also likely, he thought, that she will be following out her destiny, should she be given to him; and, moreover, the report which comes to me of him is good.
The proposals were now laid before her, and she allowed the marriage with her to be arranged which Eirik wished to promote. However, I will not now speak at length how this marriage took place; the Yule festival was prolonged and made into a marriage-feast. Great joy was there in Brattahlid during the winter. Much playing at backgammon and telling of stories went on, and many things were done that ministered to the comfort of the household.

apologies to those who had to wade through -or ignore this last year or even before, but today's wind and rain made it seem more like something like "Jul" the old holiday, before the cross replaced all the"old things"

Something I should document..... for the record.
I clearly remember going to the bank with $30 of paper money from odds/ends work.....as a kid. It was 1974....and I was 12 years old. I asked the bank: Could I please have $30 of brand new Half Dollars. The teller said: "No. They would have to put an order in.....to get new Half Dollars". Then she said: "We have rolls of Half Dollars and a few loose ones. Would I like to have any of those?" I said: "Sure". She handed me 3 rolls of Half Dollars...... and I handed her $30 in paper money. (Mostly $5's and $1's). This is when I learned that Half Dollars came in $10 rolls (with 20 Half Dollars in each roll). The teller asked me why I wanted $30 of old, dirty, bulky Half Dollars!
The paper wrappers all looked faded..... and in about the condition of a ragged-out dollar bill. I think the paper wrappers had been used/recycled multiple times.
I was somewhat surprised when I opened the rolls.... and started digging through the dates. One roll was entirely Walking Liberty Half Dollars. The 2nd & 3rd rolls were an identical mix of Walkers....a few Franklins.... a few 1964 Kennedy's..... and a few 1965 - 1969 Silver-Clad Half's. Some of the Walkers were nearly uncirculated 1944, 1946 & 1947 Half Dollars. Quite a few of the Walkers were worn-out/flat teen's Half Dollars.
I was VERY curious "why" the bank(s) had not "turned in" the silver coins.... back to the mint.... in the late 1960's.,.,.,.,., but..... I was NEVER going to "ask" that question!!!
Nobody respected Half Dollars... back in 1974. Nobody cared about them. Even the silver ones were considered old/dirty/unwanted/bulky money. Seems the silver Dimes & Quarters were IMMEDIATELY hoarded; yet, NO ONE cared about Half Dollars!!!

Parting note: ((( IF ONLY I "KNEW"!!!!!! )))
