First off, I asked Tom for permission to post this thread, as it is somewhat related to treasure hunting, where as the rules and policies they come up with do affect where we can hunt.
Lets keep the negative stuff off the thread, the candidates are doing a good enough job of mud slinging themselves. And attacks on fellow detectorists are never permitted as you all know.
State your personal choice, and why you like that person to be our next leader.
Here is my choice.....CRUZ.....why?..... I like his backbone, he is not afraid to take on the establishment ....So far he does what he says he will do. ( in congress)
..... He knows the constitution, respects it, and battled the supreme court on numerous occasions in the past, as he is a constitutional lawyer when he was in Texas....
He wants to get rid of the IRS,( I just spent $300 to have my taxes done) , go with a flat tax....get rid of the EPA, the National Education Association, ( common core),
Obamacare, Dept of Energy, cut government to the bone, Build a wall on the Mex border, deport the illegals, Flatten ISIS,.
He reminds me of Reagen, who I admire alot, and has a dad that is a pastor, who will keep him in line. He just strikes me as a decent, intelligent guy, who would make a great leader.

Who is your choice, and why? smileys with beer

I liked Ted Cruz until his campaign in Iowa stabbed Dr. Ben Carson in the back and the fake voting record report card trick that he pulled was very slimy politics as usual. It does not matter since he is not a natural born citizen, although he could rum for prime minister of Canada. Lets face it, it's either Trump or Klinton and I ain't voting for that cheating, lying, criminal witch from Arkansas.

I second that whole heartedly. A lot of angry working people in this country. Of course the vote for a living people will not show this election cycle. Nobody like them running......

There will be absolutely nothing happening in our capitol for the next nine months. The President won't get anything passed through Congress. Congress will be gridlocked over the Supreme Court nominee and the Supreme court will be tied in all the voting. The situation is pathetic. And to top it all off the next candidates are all worse than a barrel of clowns. As far as our hobby goes I guess the worst President would be the best. The dollar goes down and gold and silver go up. Maybe something will happen over Federal land management. That could impact gold hunting on Federal land. Me? I just want to detect some old yards and try the new Racer 2. I don't worry about the politics in that. Who will I vote for? That's between me and my candidate. Who would I like to see win? The jury is still out. The clown car is still rolling.

I like Cruz for all that you mentioned, possum....and he's super smart....hell of a memory.

Second, I like Ben Carson. Do NOT think he's a pushover too mild and laid back. I believe if he's prodded enough the fists will come up. Remember, he had to learn to control his anger when he was a youth. I like his sense of humor and demeanor. He's also conservative and a constitutionalist like Cruz. Good guy.

If Trump floats to the top, I will take him over the witch and the socialist any day of the week.

Trump, who will simply shake things up....should be fun to watch....would be nice to see the 'Fed' get audited.
It really doesn't matter who is pres....as they (both political parties) are bought and owned by big business and wall street, hands tied, and couldn't really do much even if they wanted to....had hopes for Obama but a big fizzle...he does look like he's impoved his golf game though....glad I'm in Canada with our healthcare system up here....

if Clinton gets in it would just be more of the same, though I believe she would be a war monger just to prove she's really a man in a woman's body....because of the global economy 'war' will probably be the by-word of the next president's time in office...

Trump will win in the end though, checkout the Trudeau landslide in Canada for proof....

Don't really like any of them, but have respected Cruz's perspective in the past. Rubio's slacker rep is disconcerting, but we did elect a man who's never had a real job in his life. I think Bernie is true to himself and sincere, but his economic views are just blatantly ignorant. Trump will speak on things politicans wont touch, which is good and bad. He just can't reign it in. Hillary is a fake, pathological liar, even for a politician. Partitionship aside I just can't fathom how people dont see it and support her.

After what they did to the last decent man who was a politician (IMO) Ron Paul at the Republican convention and how the media treated him I have about zero interest in any of this clown affair act. One side takes.for four or 8 years then they swap sides and do the same thing. We are sheep. Whew this is the most negative I've been since I quit keeping up with the clowns. Don't kid.yourself they are all the same. Wars wars and more.wars. wasn't the one in office now supposed to be anti war? He has really made a pretty good Republican.

Most know exactly what Hillary is and will defend her to the end, because they want free stuff. We need a big shakeup in Washington to turn things around, I'm going with Trump. It's nothing but one big cocktail party with both parties in Washington.

February 24, 2016 03:07PM
Well some of you all probably know I'm retired military.

I am in one respect glad the op brought this subject up.

But I want to shed some light here on some of my thoughts.

First off I believe in equal opportunity and treatment-- across the board to all legal US citizens.

Many folks who frequent this forum are older than I, some younger.

What happened to the mostly single bread winner household???

Has this shedding of this, possibly affected our youth here in our country??

It fascinates me, how did we govern say 50 years ago here in the USA??

I mean most budgeting-- math was done with pen and paper.

Today, with the push of a few buttons-- programs like social security, Medicare, etc-- can be looked at with various parameters altered to see future overall effects.

Even look at transportation-- back in the day, government officials couldn't even visit or talk to many of their people

And now look at communications-- this too has significantly changed-- much faster, real time-- even from the other side of the world

I unfortunately never personally knew any of the founding fathers of this nation

But would it be a fair statement to say this country has changed -- but our constitution hasn't

It is striking, we have had 2 constitutional amendments concerning alcohol

And we don't ever really see politicians or office holders talk about this-- amending the constitution.

And now we see this Supreme Court vacancy-- has got some attention.

This is a very easy problem to fix with constitutional amendment.

Could be fixed actually in 2 ways-- either by adding a justice-- a spare justice who is a non voting yet participles and can be used in case of accident or death of a member,,, or
In the situation we have now, just remove the justice with the least amount of seniority --- making for a total of 7 members, no possibility of a tie

You see, we as Americans continually see all these situations-- where a grown up and reasonable process/ decision is not obtained

And we see folks who earn roughly a quarter a million dollars a year in salary-- rather stupid sounding and looking

We see the same old fights every 4 years-- only to discover down the road we have not progressed, instead regressed

Even watching the press-- they think they are all God's brain children-- but they all fail to realize there is no manual anywhere that quotes or states how or what a candidate can or should do when even running for president.

Politics can be strange and even funny at times-- it is mostly about the psyche, maybe even brainwashing to a degree.

We keep seeing politicians state we are a wealthy country and the strongest militarily

But this country sure don't perform like a well oiled machine-- it should considering what we all pay to these folks

I expect there to be differences of opinion-- this is expected,, but many it seems can't see the forest for the trees

I don't know where many of these folks who serve come from--- But they need to take a hard look at themselves and remember they work for us, not vice versa.

We see how newer technology has changed this country of ours--- such as drones, Internet, cell phones, etc

We also see where all the lawsuits have been lodged--- many just so the high court can rule

But the overall process being taken, IMO is putting undue and unnecessary pressure on the SCOTUS

I don't hate lawyers, but I wonder many times--- if we had some good constitution amendments--- would their services even be needed many times and would the highest court even have to hear many cases.

So I think we need some courageous folks elected who will do some courageous things.

The question is will we ever get???

Cruz for president. Because he reminds me of Reagan and Ronald brought us back from Jimmy peanut Carter.
Klinton for Prison.
Trump to have a new show called"Who's a Canadian".
And Rubio should be over the Department of Education because he can relate to kindigarteners. "Love the deer in the head light look" he gets in every debate, also looks scared to me?
Carson for Surgeon General.
Sanders sent to Cuba/China where he can live the dream.

I did answer the ops question with my post(s) here.

Just wait till January 2017 and you see the final result.

I just didn't answer in the fashion you wanted.
And I'm no elected politician who makes around $250,000 a year-- so I can't be held to the same standard as they.

I am really enjoying this election. It gives me a chance to have some discussions with my kids about the candidates platforms that haven't existed in a long time. Like a lot of young people they are have not been engaged in previous elections. They are finally learning how the media controls the message and hides the truth. I don't necessarily like any given one yet, but there is a long way to go until the elections. I really like how Sanders and Trump are resonating with average people by going against the Dem and Rep establishments. At the minimum it is causing conversation about subjects that never would have been brought up. I have been fed up with both parties for years and the extreme politics and control over the system they both have. The middle class has been thrown under the bus by both parties. I am worried both parties can still derail the two leaders (assuming Sanders and Trump) and push the buttons to make Clinton or Cruz/Rubio their given candidates even if they don't win during the caucus voting. If that happens the US is really screwed. I think the electoral college also needs to go away and instead just have a straight forward popular vote system. That and super pacs need to be outlawed.

Cruz has bizarre facial movements. His eyes frown with his smile. Gives off a bad vibe to me although I like his stand on issues. Rubio has almost the same issues stances and has a lot better body language. I remember seeing a study a while back that showed all the presidents and their facial indicators and it picks Rubio to win.

However, Trump is getting the nominee. There is no denying that. He has a lot of good stances some very liberal too though. I think a lot of what he says is not as bad as the media spins it to be but still a bit troubling.

My key issues are Budget and Defense and all 3 should improve things there.

Hillary and Bernie are a joke. I'm not apposed to considering a democrat, just not the extremes such as those.

Right now, I will vote for Rubio in Primary. Trump in general election.

I have little respect for any of the current senators running for the presidency. They might talk a good talk but have not been effective in congress in my opinion, and the fact that the health care act was passed in its abominable glory shows that they were at least napping on the job or not diligent. Yes, I realize that it takes a majority to vote things down, etc., but our Constitution has not been protected and upheld by congress as a whole, and I believe we need a new batch. Cruz seems to support several things I value, but I don't trust him (see above).

My vote will probably go to Trump, though he is obnoxious, a showboat, radical, and all sorts of other things I would normally not value in a presidential candidate. As a person, I haven't liked him since I first heard of him in the '80s. However, it's going to take a strong-willed president to get the train back on the rails after all the damage this country has suffered for some time now, and when I look at it logically he seems to be the best choice in my opinion. He's independently wealthy and I don't think can be bought, and if he does what he says he'll do I'll be more than happy. Of course, you never know what promises they'll keep once elected.

My prediction is that Hillary will be the next president, despite her glaring deficits with truthfulness and following protocol. I hope I'm wrong.
Re: OT: Who would you like to see as our next president, and why?tongue sticking out smiley
February 24, 2016 05:16PM
Alright, I'll spill the beans and give my reasons.

Trump is my candidate.

Why??

You see because of our rigged political system--- meaning a person who would run as a independent would never take the office--- electoral college total of 270 impossible-- hence the candidate picked by the congress.

So Trump is really an independent who is running as a Republican-- so the above won't apply.

You see both the dems and republicans have allowed this to happen-- both have become extreme-- leaving a gaping hole to drive a mack truck through

And Trump with his intelligence saw this and is taking advantage.

He has provided payroll to folks, health care, has built businesses, has dealt with foreigners, has good work ethics, so does his children

For a billionaire--- he seem to have a good idea what is on folks minds and their concerns

This southern border-- this has been an issue for a while here in the USA--- why do we every 4 years keep talking about it-- no action

The same with the middle east

I have always wanted these questions answered but no one ever asked,, why on 9-11/2001,,, after our government- the president getting warning with a bulletin-Bin Laden to attack US with planes

Did the President have a squadron of fighter aircraft on alert or patrol that dreadful day???

I mean the World Trade Center had been attacked before--- wouldn't need to be a rocket scientist to see how the NYC and DC areas would be prime target.

And before we went into Afganistan and Iraq,, was the VA asked if they could support the troopers later,, if not were alternative provisions considered or put into place???

So Trump says things other politicians have neglected to say

Remember Viet Nam war--- the same thing happened,, and this great country suffered along with the vets

Look at how our smaller towns-- stripped of jobs, folks don't know what to expect--- how to make a comfortable living,,, not get rich just to live comfortable

Healthcare--- I don't think anyone expects a free ride,,, but they want to be able to afford something that will get them through a tough time.

Trump I feel will be in a position to call some of these game playing congressman out-- and if they don't want to bargain they will get beat

I don't think it is Trump's intentions--- when the history books are written some 40 plus years from now

To go down in history as a bad president--- he does have several accomplishments and his serving as president will only add.

This big money in politics--- is a dangerous thing IMO, and Trump points this out

I myself even got to witness while in the military,,, where the politicians when bargaining with DoD equipment--- and not having the USA's best interest at heart here
And Trump has points this out if folks have been watching.

Is he a perfect candidate?? Nope. No such person exists.

But remember I'm not planning to marry Trump, or go steady with him.

I want someone who I think will take the bull by the horns--- not this wrangling and beating around the bush

And IMO, there are both Dems and Republicnas who aren't looking forward to his arrival

The curtain is being pulled back on these country clubbers-- the establishment are running scared,,,,the are trying to put this Jeannie Trump back in the bottle
But it's too late

Folks here may not agree with me. I do pay close attention to each and every candidate

Trump when looking at any and all issues--- makes the overall better sense

His message hasn't changed since the beginning of his run-- unlike ole Hillary, she sounds more and more like Bernie with each passing day

And this is telling--- this is a person who is disconnected from the American people as a whole

So if Trump is elected --- we will have the first independent candidate actually elected for president

And folks, I think we are due

It is a shame though our political system has caused Trump to go the route he has/ is going.-- no fault of his.

I disagree with Trump winning. The Republican party has been searching for a new identity for quite some time. The Tea party is now a failure because Trump is sure no Tea party representative. Basically he just a person representing an alternative to other candidates that nobody likes like Cruz. But in the end his alienation of minorities and women will be his downfall. The minorities are why Romney and the war monger before him lost. And this guy will not get the votes that they did. A very poor tactic and a sure path to Loserville. Hillary by a landslide.
Re: OT: Who would you like to see as our next president, and why?tongue sticking out smiley
February 24, 2016 05:59PM
I respect your opinion Goodmore.

But I disagree and here's why.

There it seems to be many middle aged and older folks a voting for Trump-- folks that have never ever voted before.

Republican primary turnout dwarfs the dems.

Hillary isn't connecting with college age voters-- they won't be breaking their necks to vote for her.

On election night,, watch this one state--- it will be the tell all

Pennsyslvania-- that's right if Trump wins there---- a smashing for ole Hillary.

And then there is ole New York State---- this will be interesting, and a Trump win there--- a devasting thrashing for Hillary.

Moderates seem to be loving Trump as well.

Hillary is stale-- and her clinging to Obama in primary will be the death of her in general

Trump won't be letting her get nowhere close back to the middle

And these tapes where old Hillary took the loot from Wall Street--- if you think Trump is going to let these die--- you are crazy

And Hillary trying to play the sexist card--- won't work,,,,expect Trump to apply muzzle to ole bubba again-- he has already done it once btw

Hillary is vulnerable in all 3 of her home states

This post will be here-- we can both look back at it come November, and see how close my crystal ball was.
