The I.D. EDGE was a favorite detector of Keith Southern as He could chime in on that one. He found a awesome silver dollar with it in it iron.

If you're looking to get a 1021 CZ-3d, this one probably won't satisfy you.

The ID Excel wasn't particularly known for it's depth...the ID Edge and Coinstrike were usually deeper.
(Price is high for an Excel, as well...pushed up by the prototype S/N)

But more importantly, that series of detectors was designed by a completely different engineer than the CZ series.
It has a completely different feel in operation. Not bad...but really different.

I'd pass.

Good luck,
mike

May won't look at cz5&6a as they were built before Fishers decline. Love my cz6a and cz20.

I've had two 1021s, two 1121s and a converted cz5. One of the 1121s is a 12.0 inch one and very stable. This is the one I still have. When Tom calibrated it he wrote in his report he was glad to see such a good late number 1121 3d.

Tom has indicated that the 1021s and the early # 1121s were most likely to be the hotter and more stable ones.

Mike Scott of ft was there at the end of the old fisher and he posted here a few years later about how bad it got at the end which would no doubt explain the higher percentage of subpar late 1121s. But I wouldn't hesitate to get a late 1121 unit if it had been certified and calibrated to at least close to 12™ and Tom gave it a good report. Buying a non Tom tuned 1121 though is a crapshoot.

These are analog units that vary in depth, stability and just overall personality from from unit to unit.
I will post it shortly..

I have a FT CZ-3D and it is a 12.1" unit so they are out there. This is my 6th one and it is as hot as my first 1021
I bought new the first month they came out.
I am interested and sent you a PM. Thank You,

No I will never sell mine as took Me too long to find a Hot one. It's also the best CZ-3D I ever had in iron. When Tom Tuned it 3 years ago He said at the time it was the only FT CZ-3D He tuned as hot as a 1021. And hottest FT unit He had on His bench. First time I took it out when I got it back scored a 1816 Large cent 10" next to a nail my Etrac missed. My oldest coin to date.

Harold, sounds like you have a keeper for sure!

I understand some performance differences in a analog detector.

But most of the Tom tuned FT units I've seen have notably poorer depth numbers than the average Los Banos unit.

The fact that FT can make a 12.1 unit that is the best in iron of all 6 of your cz-3ds (an attribute every bit as important as the stellar depth) tells us that it can still be done.

And makes it disappointing that more of the newer cz-3ds don't equal or at least come close to the performance of yours.

FYI There are a couple on the bay of pigs. One is a 1121 Tom Tuned. The other a new FT unit.

I see the 1121. The other I see is S/N 031601147 and made in El Paso TX.

Maybe the guy with the FT unit would do a air test and if it is a Hot one might get a deal as the 1121 is already at 500.00.
If it can do over 11" it is a good one in my eyes anyways. And maybe Tom could tweek a little more out of it like mine.

I have a nice 1021 Tom tuned and certified at 12" , with stock coil and 10" I might consider selling.
