Original Fisher CZ20 - Tom ???
April 28, 2016 02:34AM
Hello forum,
Was wondering if Mr. Dankowski works on cz20's.
I have 2 originals...
1 is quite HOT but 8" coil, can you put a 10.5" on for me? Just want to cover more ground and if depth increases...Bonus.
Thanks in advance.

My opinion..... leave the hot one with the 8 inch coil alone.

I second that opinion! And based on what Tom told me on a cz-5 I was having issues with I'm pretty sure you will have to send it to FT and they will convert it to a cz-21 no matter which coil you choose.

Do not touch a hot machine!!!

From what I remember reading you can only get the CZ20/21 worked on at fisher and its a process because they need to take it all apart to do anything.

Correct. Only Fisher can work on the waterproof units.

I wasn't going to be diving with the unit, strictly beach hunting...
I was hoping for a connector that I could swap between the two coils, again the detector will not be submerged, just weather elements.
Ok, how about this? Instead of going into the guts of the unit...can the coil cable be cut and spliced to the new coil with a specific type of connector? lets say yes it can be done, does the new connector/splice increase voltage or ohms or ??? that even if properly done could cause unit to become unstable?
Thanks for the replies so far...I'm tired of Steve H and John C covering more ground than me. LOL
Again thx.
Scott

It 'could' be done; yet, does indeed risk improper re-shielding which may induce interference ...................... and.................... yes, impedance mis-match possibilities.

Heres one Joe did, but i believe they have found even a better connector since this. I know a few guys who use the huge coils....... but PPing can be a bear as well as finding the target if you dont get it on the first scoop. Out of the water and in current they can really make your day work as well. Coverage is great......but depending on your location depth can suffer with both the large and small coil. ML did away with their so called 8" coil........so apparently not a lot of people bought them. I never found a lot of difference in sensitivity either.

Check out this ........... it might just be what you need for your project of changing coils.

Its too bad fisher/minelab don't just include something like this on their machines so that we can swap out coils. Just imagine if they actually made the machine we wanted?
