Old gold, silver, 1896 SF Dog License, & tokens

Got out a couple of times this past week, and I did pretty well. Scored an old gold ring with a small diamond, a Barber quarter, and a couple of really cool relics.

One of my favorite finds of the year is something that's been on my bucket list for a while, been hoping to dig a pre-1900 dog license, and I hit pay dirt with an 1896 San Francisco Dog License!! Looked online and the oldest San Francisco dog license I could find was from 1909.

I also found a neat railroad button from the long defunct San Francisco Presidio & Ferries Railroad button with a little rail car depicted in the center, wish it was in better condition, but it's gotta be a rare California button. Got an early U.S. Marine Corps two piece cuff button, and a civilian button with a dog or horse on it. Not far from it I got a neat old lead racing horse with the jockey on it and it still has some original color on it. Also dug a couple of tokens, including a BALICH BROS.PHONE CHECK / 5¢ / MOISE S.F.

I guess the dog tag was riveted into a leather collar, wonder why there's no rivets in the holes. Is it brass, Brian?

Super week for sure just luv those old tokens and such...Didn't know they had dog licenses that old....could be worth a lot to a collector....would really check it out...

I'd bet that License is worth some good cash..those 1800s are harder to get hold of...they demand more money..

The fancier the design the higher the price...Deep south ones lIke natchez Mississippi or Savannah or Charleston can Get over 250.00

Got quite a few dog tags in San Francisco parks, but nothing that old.

Unlike European jewelry, dating U.S. jewelry can be quite difficult.
Probably need assistance from an antiques Jeweler, or getting a hold of a book on U.S. gold jewelry hallmarks.
