Something different.

Thought that I would post something a little different for this forum... a little nugget shooting adventure from yesterday.
The weather is finally cooling off here in Central Arizona so a buddy and I did some nugget shooting. He armed himself with his SDC and me with my GPX-4500 and new Nugget Finder 12" Evolution coil. It was an awesome day with light intermittent showers. The gold came out to play toowinking smiley.

Great hunts and good gold to match. Hope I get to go out west someday and find a few nuggets of my own...Stuart

Nice digs, always love to see the yellow stuff in the hole!

I gotta ask, how much of the GPX-4500 did those nugs pay off?

thanks for sharing, Dean. Congrats on the gold.

NC has gold; just haven't made the commitment to look for it...

Well, lets see...gold is $47+/gram right now and the 4500 found 3 grams that day = $141.00 for the day. So. it would take approx 20 outings at 3 grams per day to pay it off at $2800.00. I hunt an average of twice a week. Gotta figure in a skunk or two or three. I live in the heart of gold country so fuel is a non issue. Whew, Cal! That made my head hurt doing complex math early in the morningconfused smiley! Never really gave it much thought as I figure that the machines pay for themselves in fun and adventure and the gold is a bonus. The above mathematical figuring is rather Utopian as any prospector will tell you. The real value that the machine brings to the table is the the great times and great friends that it finds for yousmiling smiley.

You live in gold country. Do you hunt gold?

Hey Dean,

Sorry for the headache confused smiley I was just curious, as those GPX machines are pricey. I'm a city slicker who lives near San Francisco, but I'll hunt anywhere (ghost towns, demos, old parks). I've never detected for gold nuggets, not sure if any of my machines would be up to the task (F75 LTD2, Makro Racer1/2, CZ70), but definitely wold like to give it a go one of these days. For sure the fun of detecting is the adventure, and great times with your friends smileys with beer

Thanks Keith.

Hey Brian,
I know some guys around Sacramento that are killing it. They have payed for their units in a matter of a few hunts! Of course, you can use just about any metal detector to find nuggets in the right situation.. The higher freq. VLF units are better for the purpose if you are using VLF. VLF is king in trashy tailing piles.

Personally, I prefer PI units, here in AZ., as they handle the hot ground associated with gold deposits much better. Not much in the way of tailing piles here in AZ. Cali. has a bunch! HH
