New permission with CW link.
September 17, 2016 04:32PM

So i got a new local permission, it's a bit of a tragic tale ending with a terminal link to the US civil war. I had a scout around early this morning for a few pics and to see if there were any hot spots and quickly scooped a wee coin. Well i think I've found a site for my 5" coil, iron and rubbish everywhere, going to hit it early tomorrow, it's next door to a pre medieval cemetery so i might pick up a lucky hammered!

That site looks about as good as it get history wise,of course that does not mean that one will find anything good, but that would certainly get my detecting pulse rate going after gaining a permission like that, really like pasture sites, trashy sites like that usually indicate human occupation and me thinks that sites has alot of history in the ground, but it could be deep,so you may have too clear the surface trash 1st with the small coil prior to hitting it with a big coil. Not envious, well not alot anyway, well done on what could be a very productive site.

What a beautiful place! I would love to see some close up photos of the structure. What was that coin?

Hi Khouse, it was early when i took the pics, the early morning mist was just lifting and everything was very quiet and still. The coin was a half silver sixpence, quite modern at 1930 compared to the site, i'll take some pics tomorrow in better light.

Would love to hunt a site like that, Racer2 with the OOR coil would probably work pretty well there smileys with beer

Cal, I've had the Racer2 and unfortunately it wouldn't cut it in this ground, it's just too mineralised for it to be effective especially with the small coil as it wouldn't get any depth.

Keith get your passport out lol
Yes Junk I'm going to give the 5" coil a blast on the GM5, it gets way deep in this type of ground.

Hmm...maybe the Impact would do OK - 4 kHz / 14 kHz / 21 kHz ?

Yes Cal, hopefully it will get on better in tough ground, 4khz on a 5" coil would be the business.

Thanks Bill, it's a lovely spot, though I've only had a short hunt so far, got a few coins but not the age im hoping for.
I've got loads of hunting grounds which are just starting to become available and not enough time to do them all lol !

I wish I had the problem of having to much land and not enough time.
