hit a house that's pretty dead way back in the woods on a March route..

managed a few pieces of Brass nothing good but still targets missed before..

even some small brass

So decided to IRON out the spot a little before dark..

Some sort of ornate iron??

Then a 3 axe cache LOL..All in same hole...

Then the pièce de résistance..Butt plate with screw still in hole!

Not shown lots of small pieces of lead and small sliver brass..

Heres some relic digs with the Relic also from the last month or so..

You know what's funny before I dug that Butt plate I heard a long piece of iron in the ground..like 3 ft..

I FEEL that's the barrell to the gun...

I need to go back and check it..long walk though..

About half up that long hill walking about a mile back to the truck I thought to myself why did I carry 20 Lbs of axe heads out of here..LOL..

Nice! That tag looks like the ones we dig up in WV, Miners tag. Each miner has a number and when they go down the shaft they hang the tag up to show who is all under ground. Any mines down that way?

few thousand im sure..

Whats great about the old Ames/Woods WW2 Shovels is I've only broken 1 handle in about 4 decades of use..

I've went through about 8 or so but they wear the blade down till there too short to dig with anymore...only about 4 or 5 inches long ...

I bought a dozen of them at once years ago 5 dollars a piece or so in about 1985 or so ...Still have a few left ..Ib=ve picked up a couple here and there at yard sales along the way..

Hopefully I have enough to last me till I'm done digging.smiling smiley

Yeah I was thinking cow tag but probably a tool tag of sort sorts or maybe a baggage tag or something..

Most of the cow tags I've dug though are huge and oblong oval thick brass about the size of a US buckle...Sound like them too!! Big let downs ...LOL
