I wish some input on new coils for the Sovereign
December 04, 2016 05:53PM
Currently I just have the old noisier 1000BBS that came with my XS2-pro. Looking to go with a 2 coil package that would cover most of my needs. Nenads fav's are the 13" Detech Ultimate and 8" Tornado. Sounds good but I can no longer find the Ultimate available for the Sovereign.
Considering going with the Detech 7X4.5 or the NEL Sharpshooter 9.5X5.5 for the smaller coil.
And the Detech Excellerator 14X10 or the Detech SEF 12X10 for the larger one to compliment the package
I will be doing some ocean beach (West Coast) hunting in my detecting mix. I need a comparison of the 2 smaller coils. Likewise a comparison of the 2 larger coils as far as depth and separation. Thx Don

get the tornado 8 inch it's as good as it gets for small coil ..its only 7.25...

for large I would get a 10x12 SEF even over the13 ultimate..the SEF separates better at depth..little heavier but worth it..Both crazy deep.

also nothing wrong with a 10 tornado.Or black cable 10 BBS...very good coil ...Very deep coils..

I agree with Keith,

Nenad originally wanted the 14x10 but he could not find one so he bought the 13" Ultimate Coil, I can still get hold of them all,

I bought the 14x10 and I was that impressed with it that I bought another one the Next day, It has become my everyday Coil,,,

I can get the 14x10 for the Sov, Etrac, fisher, Garretts and of coarse Whites.

Thank you Keith and John,,, I've been hammering old posts... The 8" Tornado is one awesome coil. Done deal... From what I have read the 10X12 SEF is deep, pinpoints tight just forward of the 'V' and responds very well to the Sovereign 'wiggle', appears to have an overall edge on the 13" Ultimate. Good call... The 14X10 Excellerator looks good, very little info on the net. At FM Nenad has posted that he has picked one up (probably because of you John) and will be doing a comparison between it and the 13"Ultimate... To be continued... Thanks again Don

Your welcome Don,, just out of a matter of interest I can get the 14x10 for around $130.00 USD, and the Ultimate for around $150.00 ish Ok

Oh and before I forget, The Hottest Coil that I found for the Sovereign GT was the Coiltek Little Joey 5x10/6x10, On tiny Cut halfs hammered Coins, The Tornado 800 saw them at 5 and 1/4" and the Little Joey saw them at 7 and a half inches and it is half an ounce lighter than the 800.

hope this helps.

I picked up a new 12 x 10 today at Kellyco for $125 in case my other one ever has issues. Best coil that I use on the beaches here in Florida Good prices on SEF coils right now. Not an advert for them..just saying.

Well done, that coil will add a bit more horsepower when you need it most,,

I did the same as you "All most" I bought the 14x10 Detech Excelarator EQ2 Pro and the next day I was back on the phone and ordered another one, just in case,,
