Golden Mask 6 or Golden Mask 5 Plus?

Been doing a bit of reading on this new Golden Mask 6 or Golden Mask 5 Plus (whichever they decide to call it), and it looks like it could be a pretty impressive machine considering the GM5, is impressive in it's own right from what I've read. Their saying it'll have a new housing with a new control panel. Probably the machine will also have a different screen. The manufacturer has announced the changes inside: the detector has got a revised audio response as well as a 30% detection depth increase.

Wow 30% more depth, that's a bold statement! The GM5 is only a monotone or 2-tone machine, that would be a deal breaker for me. Anyone know if the new machine will offer a 3-tone setting? Their saying it has revised audio response but that could mean a lot of things.

With new flag ship machines slated to be released from First Texas, Nokta/Makro, and now Golden Mask, 2017 is going to be a really interesting year

I run the GM5 and as a relic machine i love it, i certainly prefer the spectrum screen over a number ID. Not sure what there changing tone wise, and knowing how these guy's wind each other up the 30% might be a bit off an exaggeration, but i hope not lol
From the picture they have defo changed the housing and kept the carbon shaft which is great.

With the GM5 on sale, I'm seriously thinking about trying one out. The only thing stopping me is that the GM5+ or GM6 is right around the corner.....what to do?

So if I order one this is THE coil to select? Mostly using it for hunting ghost towny iron infested relicky sites.

BTW how are the wireless headphones?

Hows the pinpointing with no pinpoint? Assuming that means its mostly a field/relic machine? Looks interesting. 3 tone and pin point would be good additions for coin shooters.

It's fast enough that you can just wiggle the coil for pinpoint...either the 'wiggle back' method, or (my preference) wiggle to center on one axis, then rotate 90deg and wiggle to 'x' it.
I've got the GM5 and the RH3, and I initially had the same concern, but it was surprisingly easy to adapt to...no problem at all.

Another missing feature that may possibly interest you is that there is no depth indication...but those of us brought up on older machines just raise the coil until the signal disappears, to get a feel for the depth.

I really like both machines, and love, love, love the spectrum VDI display, and co-mingled target separation.

(Haven't seen/heard anything concrete about their newer units in development.)

Wireless headphones work fine...no noticeable lags. I think they're exactly the same ones Deteknix sells.

The only thing I found out the hard way was to make sure you take off the wireless headphones BEFORE you turn on/off the machine.
On both of mine, there's an extremely loud 'POP' that could eventually induce hearing loss.

Here lately...because of the cold...I've preferred full muff wired headphones, just to keep my ears warm.

Doesn't seem to make much difference which I wear.

You could use it for coinshooting but it would take a bit of adjustment to the id screen as it doesn't readout in numbers.
I've a feeling they are going to add iron audio to the next model, i run it always in 2 tone.
The headphones work perfect, best to keep the volume low 4 or 5 on the machine and turn it up on the headphones.
I have the 5" coil and it's very good, running it in 8khz i can get an english penny @9" in my ground which reads med/high on the Gm5, that's as good as my R2 got with stock coil, though it's not a depth monster in mild soil.
You can adjust the recovery speed which in turn adds a little more disc, but it won't go above small nails, you can't disc out foil etc

I agree with Mike, x for pinpoint is easy and the id screen is my fav to date for relics. You can also get an idea of depth as the audio is modulated and the spectrum screen gives you a taller spike for shallow coins etc

One other thing, buy direct from GM or one of their approved dealers or your warranty wont count!

It separates fast even at that size. I have 4 coils. This one does the job!

Is $515 US new with 3 coils a good price?

The Bulgarians are running wild using the same board to produce a number of different detectors. The GM5 is a very good unit. Fast and deep enough. My favorite is the Pirate Black Devil 2 Pro. The best beep and dig detector I have used in the iron! Keep digging and testing!

Seems like a good deal. With one coil, straight from the factory with shipping, it comes out to around $422.

So an extra hondo for two coils, cool beans!

They are all derivatives of a single/couple units. If you look closely at the specs and circuitry...............from what I understand the Wave and the Magnum.
The Pirate, Golden Mask, Desert Gold.............are the same.

Whats great about the particular Pirate I mentioned is that it takes 10 AA batteries to power it and all controls are very useful. The threshold triggers the depth of the machine, one tone or two. I max out the disc. and hunt using one tone. When I get a good target I check it in two. This way I do not hear the machine gun sound of the iron hunting in two tone with no disc. It also costs less then 300 US. Shazam!

Watching the video on the GM5+ or GM6 (not sure) and comparing it to my GM5 two things stand out. First more depth because of the power box( like a boost mode) and second the iron tone stays low at greater depth.

The New Golden Mask 5+ has the standard option of model 5, with addition of:
- Targets level of rejecting (iron volume) - e.g. it can cut off pull tabs
- Increasing the depth of detection (power box). It will increase the coin depth with 4-6cm in the ground more than the ordinary GM 5 (on 8 kHz)
- Improved sound.
- Better sensitivity to small targets
- Automatic ground balance adjustment
- The display will show the target ID in numbers

Great info having not being able to see the meter. What I like about the old meter is when you run over large flat iron it smears the meter. Increasing the disc. to pull tabs may make it more popular with park and coin hunters!

Pirate for me but as we know I'm a relic hunter and only need to hear that iron !

Keith, there not really sparky or powerhouse units, and you wouldn't be impressed if you saw an airtest on the larger coils, but they lose very little depth in ground.
