GM5+ Air test

[youtu.be]

A quick air test on the GM5+, this was indoors so don't take it too serious on depth, but it shows the main improvement using the power box is in 8khz, in 18khz i found it far more sensitive than the original gm5.
Only had the one hunt so far but really enjoyed it, just eats through my ground and loses very little depth which is it's biggest positive for myself, in my test pit it gets a silver sixpence in disc at 8" no probs. The iron tone has been softened which is a big plus, would have liked iron volume but maybe on the next model.
The disc depth i need to play with more, seems the deeper you hunt the higher you need to turn it up for both correct tone and if you want a screen ID.

I've not had a detector with a number readout in a while, so it's another thing to play with.
The pic shows a few readings with the dime coming in around +81

I guess the iron volume feature will be on the GM6thumbs up

Yes, shame about the iron volume, though they have softened the tone which helps, or you can run in mono tone.
It does seem to have good screen ID around small nails for small silver though.
Here's a clip using a silver sixpence (about the same as a silver dime) with nails at 8". You can see when the tone break is lowered to around small nails and the disc depth raised it picks the coin out well and gives a 80's number ID which is near enough correct.

That's probably years away. But I did get to check out a GM5+ that a buddy had and it's only maybe 0.5 inches deeper it's nothing special the changes don't really warrant extra $60 in cost.

I'm not sure how you tested your friends, i tested mine in undisturbed soil and it's noticeable deeper in 8khz on high conductors, not so much in 18khz, but it is far more sensitive and gives back better audio/TID to it's full depth, able to boost power to the coil, 2 added levels of gain, extra freq shift, longer running time etc a much improved machine.

I actually took both and tested in a public park in real hunting conditions and didn't notice much or rather really any differences worth writing home about I guess you could put it.

Sure it has a few features but they really were unnecessary I was easily getting 10 inches on some targets with the original golden mask 5 the + was getting the same neither machine could pickup a target reading over 10 inches that I hit with another of my machines target was at 12 inches so in that event must not be deeper as neither picked the target up.

It recovers well after being overloaded on a large shallow iron target.

I am sure a lot of people on this forum would pay $60 for an increase of 0.5 inch depth, Tom D is begging Nokta for 3mm (0.11811 inch) more depth from the Impact lol.
