"No detector needed"
This is true, but since Dec 2016, you've needed to obtain the (reasonably expensive) permit, just to search. So if you have the permit for digging, you may as well consider using a detector.

I knew the Feds would show up.

Yes, it's becoming too popular, and getting media exposure, such as the "Mud Men" TV show. The digging permit has tripled in price in 5 years, and now simply picking up items is restricted. It can take several weeks to obtain a permit, so it's not very practical for those wanting to obtain a 'One-day' permit, for a vacation/occasional visit.

It's not old, the video states the lady started doing it in 2012, I suspect it was filmed in the past year, though possibly before the permit rules change in December. But it's true, it's revealing nothing new, and a cynic might say it's purpose is to try and drum up some interest in mudlarking, to fill the PLA coffers.
There's a small group that run 'tourist' group walks on the foreshore ( London Walks I think) doing a bit of group mudlarking. Since the permit came in, they've had to stay off the foreshore, and just walk along the bankside peering down 7 metres.... not exactly the same eh? Eyes only the car tyre and Boris Bike.
