Nice!

That's a very nice example, no doubt helped by the fact that they didn't circulate heavily. The hammered coins we find here in the U.K can be poor - clipping, circulation wear, and damage caused by farming in the centuries since their loss. Those U.S hammereds occasionally turn up over here, I recall one was pierced, so possibly worn as jewellery / lucky talisman.
Good photography, too, really shows the charm these coins have.

Undamaged, unclipped... quite rare as such. I have a decent one that is ever so slightly bent.

Where was this coin found?

In the northeast of the U.S.A. Cellar hole hunters are VERY secretive about their locations. But then they find stuff like this, so it makes sense.

I would highly recommend going on a cellar hole hunt for folks who are able-bodied enough and can find someone who knows how to do it. Hiking 5 miles in the woods and seeing a massive foundation pop out of the brush is an amazing experience. The early settlers of our country were a different breed!

Tboykin stated; The early settlers of our country were a different breed!

So true. I have thought about them many times, probably as most have on this forum. No place to buy anything, nature is your store, you're on your own...
Not done right you die or you're crippled.....and that's no guarantee. Tough, rugged and skilled they were or became.

If I saw that at the bottom of the hole I would crap myself. What a beautiful piece of history. I live in a town I thought was old. That is 100 years earlier. Wow!

Odd thing about this coinage is that it rarely circulated much. You never find one in a Fair-VG condition. Most specimens are VF-XF. More than a few uncirculated examples exist.

That appears to be a super rare find from across the pond, what would be a fair sale price for such a coin ?? just some indication and guidance on how rare it is.

I asked where this silver was found. I read a cellar hole, assuming it was in the USA.

So where was this coin found?
