Do you add positive GB to your F75 LTD/SE ?
July 29, 2011 07:35PM
As you who have one know, the F75 LTD/SE can be quite noisy in some areas sounding off on the most minute mineral salts and small flecks of iron.

I've read before that after you do a ground grab, that you should switch to manual GB and add 2-3 digits to your ground grab results and it will desensitize the detector to these small nuisances.

Anyone here doing that and finding that it adds to a more quite detecting experience?

Thanks!
Brian

When I had my T2.........I would advance the GB 2-3 digits.........it helped. I think Mike Hillis recommended doing this procedure.

Why not just move the DISC off zero a few points?

In general......................and this goes with nearly any brand detector...............................adding positive Grnd Bal will usually cause a bit more 'falsing' on iron targets....including flecks/flakes. Lowering the Grnd Bal....and iron more readily ID's correctly.

A lower threshold will quite it down at parks with alot of the targets that hit in the 30-40 on the g2 when you ground bal you also set the threshold and then ground bal I have used a lower or no sound to clean the machine up a bit. But the deeper targets will be a bit harder to hit...

so help a newbie,,, Tom says ADDING GB will increase falsing,, as LOWERING it works a bit better on iron,,,, so turning the knob to a HIGHER numbeer is ADDING GB ? and going to a LOWER number is lowering it? Thanks for your patience

higher # adds more GB

Thanks for that tip Tom. A few times my V3i really falsed bad on the iron. I hadn't thought to just run the GB -1 or -2.

on my AT Pro I drop the GB down about 5 to run it smoother on the beaches and 10 on land , it seems more sensitive to copper, but when I clean out a site, I add 10 to the GB to look for buttons, never had manual GB before and I'm having a blast with it

My cz3d ground ballanced correctly, hits a measured 10" deep quarter repeatedly with a high tone. When I drop the GB two numbers, I get low tones on the quarter. The falsing is minimized, but that's not a good trade off.

I recall therover saying the 3d sometimes will give a low tone on deep silver.

That tells me that the 3d has to be ground ballanced spot on and checked periodically. It also tells me that a test garden is a must and the detector still has the dirt and minerals to contend with.

For me, when I'm out searching for coins, thats all I'm doing, not really any testing going on. In the test garden, it's the opposite. I should have built one years ago.

I rarely run the DISC at zero, typically I run it at 4-5, OR if I'm trying to cherry pick silver I'll bump it to ~ 22 (still gets the extra sensitivity boost that disc 5 or less gets).

Great, so what I read was going the wrong direction to begin with - LOL

Thanks, I'll try dropping the GB 2-3 points next time I'm in noisy ground.

This would be great info IF we were talking about the G2, but this post is for the F75 LTD smiling smiley

I've read that if you bump the GB up on the ATP is is also much hotter on silver (and it's already hot on silver).

Two numbers on the CZ3D is a lot when it only has what, ten to begin with, that's a 20% difference. The F75 has 90, so dropping it 2-3 numbers is only ~ 2-3% differential, not a substantial change, but if it'll help quite it down on mineral salts and iron specks, it'll be a much more enjoyable detecting experience.

F75/F70/T2 have '99' (plus 5 increments per number).

You're right, I must've been thinking about the default GB setting on the F75 LTD.
