Hopefully the UPS truck doesn't have tire chains on when they drop off my Equinox!

I do hope they've got the low-latency Bluetooth working properly. Detectorists can be a picky bunch, and with this being a fast machine, anything even slightly sluggish is going to get noticed. A latency figure of 30 millisec or less should please everyone. I'm reminded of Makro's Bluetooth dongle for the Racer - their engineers set it up to low latency, but some customers didn't like it. Again, the Racer is a fast machine, and those small delays, on top of the inherent ~80msec processing delay of the detector, add up.

Regarding the release date: The fact that cardboard boxes all printed up are being shown, tells me they're pretty close to release, it's just going to be 'bugs' , or manufacturing issues that could cause delays.

I originally heard they were going to have optional 6" and 8x12 coils but this video says 6" and 15x12!!
Also if I heard correctly the Multi Frequency is specially tuned for each hunt mode.
Very interesting..

Even if lets say it was equal to the Dues. It still has three significant advantages over the Dues XP:

1) It's Minelab
2) It can do simultaneous multiple frequencies (I believe the Dues is like the Impact, whereas you can select multiple frequencies of which one at a time can operate)
3) Price - For $899 including the wireless headphones, if it performs like a Dues, is a great price

As always, the proof is in the pudding, can't wait for a bit of this one!

Taken with a grain of salt of course (although he seems to be on the level) Brandon Niece said he loved the bluetooth, even used it with is iPhone BT earpods and said there wasn't any lag and that it worked flawlessly. They also include a WM08 wireless module to use wired headphones on a different wireless medium. We'll see how they turn out, but hopefully everyone learned their lesson from the Red Racer BT headphones smiling smiley

Just trying to glean all the info I can off these videos.. [www.facebook.com]
Almost sounds like the Multi Frequency is of the 5-10-15 kHz range on the 600 and the 800 ads the features of two more
Single frequencies of 20 and 40. I was kind of assuming the 800 might use Multi Frequency with the 20 and 40 included..
Dangerous to speculate at this stage but fun to do when your excited.

You can spend the next three months trying to figure how multi freq. detectors work - I know I did. I'm still confused.

Re: Here's the new Minelab Equinox

A search of the Interwebs seems to show that "Low-Latency APTX" has a lag/latency below 40 millisec, typically 35msec, so if that's what they've used, all is OK.

Interesting thought:
It seems almost certain that they will have used 'standard' electronic parts for the wireless system, which means it's a stereo, 16-bit hifi-quality link (even though that's overkill for a detector). So...there is the possibility they could operate the machine in some form of 'stereo' mode. Eg. the familiar disc & all-metal combination, or something different. It all depends if ML thought it was worth designing it to be 'stereo-ready' or not.

Interesting. He claims the multi-freq is super fast and puts it in a new category for finding stuff in trash. But I have to assume he meant that compared against existing multi-freq machines not top single freakers. Still, any advance is welcome.

Plenty of time to do the research on this one. The saying in the hobby is no detector does it all. But if I had to choose one to do it all it would be the CTX. If I can do that for a grand cheaper in a lighter package then the decision becomes very easy.

A minelab rep stated in a video the Multi freq will be the same on both the 600 and 800. I eill look for video ehen I get a minute

I saw that too I think diggs4ever.
But it seems the unclear part is,,there are advanced setting(s) options on 800 model the 600 don't have.
What are these additional settings options on 800 model exactly, and what do they do??
Re: Here's the new Minelab Equinox
September 19, 2017 01:05PM
From the video, that was my take on it as well....both machines offer multi freq between the 5, 10, 15 khz. The 800 offers two more frequencies to be used as single freq...that was my understanding of it if they had all their info correct when going over the features.

5 and 15 khz are an interesting combo to be running at the same time. The Fisher CZ comes to mind; wouldn't it be great if it were like that for coins and for salt water, in a water proof, light weight package, with faster recovery, adjustable tone breaks, etc? I dunno how the 10 khz would play while added into that but I'm still darned excited about it.

I tried the version of bluetooth they use, buying a transmitter and using headphones that match and it just didn't work well enough. hopefully their version of spec
implementation is better. BUT, they provide their WI-stream module in the box (no speaker version) so that can be used and should be the same as the CTX version, which I found to work great even though you do have a dangling wire in that case.

as an aside, I just received last week the new version of wireless headphones (now have battery life beeps) and tx module for my Racer 2. Works really, really well!
I'm really impressed with it! volume control knob adjust works brilliantly, and just turn the headphones on and go. absolutely no delay detected and audio is great.
nice setup now and a joy to use at least till next spring when the Equinox is available up here in Canada, lol.

Everyone has to react to XP's Deus sooner or later. This is Minelab's reaction. We should know by this time next year if it was a sucessful or not.

There's another advantage here in the uk with multi freq vs Deus single freq, is coke, some of my fields are riddled with it, and under certain conditions the Deus isn't good at ID,ing it.

Some had to react to Garrett's At line sooner or later.
This is Minelab's reaction.
We should know well before a year's time if this was a success or not.

Everyone should probably put the breaks on expectations some. It's pretty clear from price and performance/features/sounds that this is the evolution of the X-terra line to hit the All Terrain waterproof market. Multi-IQ looks to be their answer to working in salt doing something similar to a CZ where others like mx sport and Garrett fail. If you want to get a feel for an Equinox go use a 705. Absolutely fantastic detector. Coil for coil the 705 can be deeper than FBS like you hear about the equinox. The equinox is letting you play with recovery, choose fequency without coil switch, tone breaks, and added multi freq option. This gives them a viable Relic machine to compete with XP and others as well as being waterproof to compete with Garrett and White's. Minelab will now be the most expensive in this market like they are in all markets. They are drowning in money already, they have no need to undercut any other products pricing wise. Just looking at this as a realist. I have no inside info.

Technically it's new tech for them but I'm not so sure it's doing anything new in detection. BUT, putting this all together in the market price point in a great light ergo package is good business for them. They really didn't have a top-tier detector in this all-terrain/relic market.

How many waterproof designs have failed in their first run? We wont know until at least a year from now that the design will hold up.
