Few Digs last couple days......Something pretty cool Too!!

Hunted a couple house sites on battlefield..

Couple of items came from live dig here [www.youtube.com]

Managed a few things normal stuff that I don't usually show but something UNIQUE caught my eye...




Do you see it??well here it is




it's a pin device...and at first I thought when I saw the U.S in middle it was some sort of union patriotic piece!!

Then upon a lite cleaning I saw the U.S was in a Oval in middle of a H buckle representation...H buckles came out in like late 1870s and were attached to ammo belts that held 45/70 cartridges ...looking at it closely I can see the buckle and the cartridges inside the holder...

so the pin device is a depiction of this




So while I was finding Civil War relics broken baronet three ringers canteen spout etc and household relics,, here's a post Civil war device Indian wars era maybe up till Spanish American war...

Only problem with it is I don't really know what it was used on??Maybe a Hat pin???Not sure...but I LIKE IT!!

Wonder what the origin of that piece is. Definitely a "pin" of sorts, but wonder what, and how it relates to the emblem on that buckle?

I find the broken bayonet interesting too.

Steve the lower left piece is a pretty typical house site and civil war camp find from the 1800s..its a reigns guide for a team of hoses....made of brass threaded ...the reigns ran through it..

Took me a minute to see what you were trying to illustrate, but now that I see it's the ammo belt/buckle on the pin, that's pretty cool!

Wonder if it could've held ribbon with a medal?

Whatever it is, it's unique and oozes with U.S. history

I like your "normal" stuff, Keith! Good mix of bona fide relics there.

It does look like the top part of a medal of some sort, but it's hard to image a medal that is related to an ammo belt.

Most of the stuff in the pic was with the RA71 on couple house sites along march routes for soldiers..

Keith what is a RA71...I have not hunted since last April as I am publishing a book and because my body can't take 90-100 plus weather, I hunt in the fall through mid spring. I am about to take the impact out and start to use it full time. I have not even scratched the surface with all metal. I just got a 9.5 X 5 to use the company sent me one. I also have the racer and the deus but find the impact for now is all I need. I tend to dig almost everything when relic hunting you just never know and if I get a beep I'm most likely going to dig it. I can't hunt as long as I use to because that will tire me out after about 5 hours but worth the effort. And now I dig a lot of iron..found locks and guns that were rusted and gave a iron grunt.
