Some say the Teknetics Patriot! I enjoy using the Fisher F44. What about you?

I suppose mid price is usd 400 - usd 600, am I right?

Hard one... You will get a ton of different answers. Racer 2 was good. But my favorite detector to use on the beach wet sand is still the over twenty years old Sovereign XS-2A. I never liked the AT Pro. Had two of them. Never liked the ergonomics or the depth. Third party coils made it deeper though. Minelab really has no mid range when you talk dollars. Whites? Them and First Texas seem to like to offer the same old in a new box in my opinion. Hey I'm hard to impress.....What can I say? I need a screen. So some of the newer models out there just don't interest me for dirt hunting. I'm a spoiled hunter.

The Elite is all I will use or need at the beach! I cleaned up Virginia Beach one week when as Max would say I brought the new "Heater" my Goldscan 5c by Eric Foster! Found 9 gold rings with the beach filled in.

The EuroTek Pro with 11" coil would be my choice.

best detector or best selling?
Re: So what is the current Mid-Price Detector King?

In that price range (especially with FT's current drop in price on them)---I really like the F-19/G2+.------Nice light, fast response, accurate I.D., almost EMI "bullet proof", very versatile detectors (relics, gold, coins, even competition hunts).----They aren't the deepest detectors in the wild west but are adequate in most cases.---------Del

Best detector.
Re: So who is the current entry level Detector King?

well with recent price changes g2+ or at $499 xterra 705.

before eurotek pro and ace 400.

you'll get a lot of patriot and liberator/lrp responses too. Those machines just dont click with me but perform good.

I suspect more Bounty Hunters are sold as a first time detector then any others. No telling how many Ace 250's are out there, either. HH jim tn

My tracker 4 was good till I dropped her a few times too many. Must have found over 1,000 USD in gold.

Under usd 450 better look on Bulgarian detectors like mikron nrg 110

As for me, I would rather buy Sorex 7280, it costs almost the same price garrett ace costs

Piligrim-47?
I have forgotten about this new detector. Yes, piligrim-47 is a cheap one. It's a Berkut 5 without display...
As far as I remember, it costs about usd 350

I am not sure that you would call it entry level as it works so well but the Tesoro Compadre is well below "mid price" and would be my pick.
Re: So who is the current entry level Detector King?

Wow, that's a pretty subjective question. Opinions could be all over the map on that one.

With some of the current price reductions on proven mid/upper level units, that's where the real value, or bang for the buck is, IMO. The Patriot you mention being one of those, a rebadged F70, once selling for $700+, the F75 introduced as the Fisher flagship model at $1000+ now available at $500 with improved features over the yrs., great values!

When I have been asked by some folks what I thought was best, I have always told them to look at features, and pick based on their intended type of detecting, and personal preferences.

First and foremost, the one feature I consider a must, is some form of adjustable ground balance. How well (or not) a detector is balanced to the ambient ground mineralization, can have a pretty profound effect on it's performance. To me, although they are pretty decent overall machines, it would eliminate machines like the F2, Euroteks, Ace series, Coinmaster, some Tesoros, and others that have factory fixed GB. In todays world adjustable GB is readily available in many forms on low priced machines, be it manual, auto (instant grab type), auto tracking, tracking w/lock. There's no reason not to have a unit with some form of adjustable GB.

Things like type of dicrimination control available, segmented, or progressive. Notching, the smaller the available notch, the better. Tones, how many, how adjustable. Is there a separate ferrous tone adjustment. Adjustable breakpoint for tone discrimination, a good all metal mode, available coils, etc., etc.,....

There's so many good machines available for $500 or less right now, that a person who does their homework can hook-up with a nice machine at a bargain price! Picking the "best" should be based on the individual, and their needs/wants.

Nokta/Macro sort of started a price war, Minelab has joined it with the Equinox - First Texas doesn't plan to be far behind - look for some big changes in pricing levels for detectors. Yesterday is gone - from now on, any detector selling for more than $600 is going to have to be pretty special indeed.

T2 is the original relic machine. they all studied it - worked hard to create detectors which could do what it does. Several succeeded in bringing machines to market that could challange it by doing pretty much the same thing - not pirates, not stealing the software code (although that some in the Far East did so) - and thus we all got more choice of good detectors.

But guess what - the T2 still kicks “you-know-what”.

Unless I’m very much mistaken, soon, you might have even better reasons to choose a T2 to add to your flock!

T2 Classic then the AT-PRO. I don't know if any of you have tried a new AT-PRO out lately but I just got one and it seems to be a lot deeper than the one I had a couple years ago. Why I don't know, but I can tell you this it will hit my 10" dime in my 3-4 bar dirt and that is without dropping the ground balance numbers 10 digits negative like I used to do with the other AT-PRO I had in order to get the same dime. My first real world hunt I found a silver Rosie down about7-8" and it sounded like it was maybe 4" deep by the audio. I don't know if they have tweaked them a little since the release of the AT-Max or what. But the ID numbers are a lot more stable than the AT-MAX.

My point is that the T2 is a true classic. Solid field performance which takes a back seat to none - ergonomics which are tops and now a bargain.
