Although none of this is jaw dropping/over the top type stuff I had a lot of fun in 2017 diggin some new sites around the county and in 2 other counties around me.

Some of this was shown in past "finds" post/some maybe not.

A few of the sites I'll be going back to this spring and we have some new ones in the works for the coming season too smiling smiley

Hope you'all had a good year and show some of your best finds too thumbs down

All period to CW era +/- (1840s - 1870s) including a couple nice CW pieces found on old home sites where soldiers lived.

I like the lead-back bridal rossett (star) as it reminds me of a Mississippi or Texas piece and also the crossed Cavalry swords as well as the sword hanger swivel thumbs down

Crotal Bell is a nice 1840s piece with the horse and makers mark too

VERY nice finds, MRH! Cool Cavalry hat pin, and is that a suspender clip bottom left? Gorgeous gilded infantry button!

Thanks guys - good luck in your finds for 2018 too thumbs down

Steve, yes, that's a silver washed suspender clip - usually don't come out that nice but it was found in sandy soil so it was preserved pretty well!

I've been dying to dig a complete Calvary crossed swords pin, that's a beauty!

Like that Texas Star badge thing too, any idea what it was?

Very nice, Wayne. thumbs down

Sounds like you managed to get out quite a bit, and have some fun (and exercise).

I was kept inside a little more than I'd like last year (health issues/surgery), but still got my 'fix'/quota of precious metals.
Let's hope we all do well in 2018...

Keep having fun!

Wayne, I envy you your detecting sites except for the part about them being frozen solid and covered in white stuff for months out of the year <g>.
Always enjoy seeing your great finds. Lots of history there. Congrats.

LoL

Thanks for the praise Wayne

as for the frozen ground though, yeah, it's not fun but generally it doesn't last for more than 2 to 3 months here (depending on how harsh the winter is) and/but the rest of the year the ground is digable or I get to water hunt in one of our many bodies of water when it's too hot in the summer thumbs down

Can't wait to see what you dig up this yr in some of your sites too!

I enjoy finding horse related relics too, except for horse shoes - lol

One of these days I'd like to dig a US bitboss, I'm actually surprised that one didn't surfaced from the Union army camp Tom and I detected.

LoL - I like diggin horseshoes = you can sell them for $20 ea grinning smiley

I'd almost bet there's a bitboss laying around somewhere on that site Brian

thing is = if it's the entire setup and not just that little roundish/oblong piece marked US - it's most likely going to read as large iron on most machines so you have to dig those type of signals. Same as with stirrups - they usually sound like crap - not like one would suspect them to. I dig all the large iron and overload type signals. I once dug a nice brass cinch buckle at a foot deep with the Deus that sounded like complete garbage. BBS woulda sounded smooth and sweet high tone but not the high/er freq. units - a lot of them don't even see that type of stuff at depth or like in my case = calls it junk/iron.

Can't wait to see what else you guys pull from that site - gotta be a plate or 2 there somewhere thumbs down
