A MAN plunged 500ft to his death searching for hidden treasure which has apparently been buried in the Rocky Mountains by an eccentric billionaire.

Jeff Murphy, 53, told his wife he was going to look for the supposed chest of gold - estimated to be worth $2 million - stashed by Forrest Fenn, but failed to return home.

Why would all these fools think this old man would clime to those highest, to give-a-way something. It is some place ease to get to, he could not carry it that far. I wish I was close so I could hunt for it, I would find it in a week.

If you can find it in a week, for two million it might be worth the trip there. LOL

The title of Fenn's book should have been "How to Raffle Off a Dead Mule"

He etched his name in eternity with this simple lie. There is no treasure he simply wanted what most mortals want. And he got it.....

Re: Another victim of looking for Forrest Fenn's treasure.

I'm sure other people DO know where it is. He's probably got people regularly checking to see if it's still there. It's not inconceivable that someone would find it, take it, yet say nothing officially. Fenn wouldn't want folks searching and risking injury/death/arrest etc if he knew it was no longer there.
It's possible the 'chest' doesn't actually contain any valuables, but contains a 'key' that gets access to the treasure, eg. a titanium bar punched with a 30-digit code number and a mail-box address.

I saw the author in an interview on The Travel Channel, and he said it was not difficult to get to. Finding it may be difficult, but physically getting to it, he said, was very easy and that people passed by it every day. Now whether it really exists or not, that's a different story!

Sometimes "things" are right in front of us and we miss because we are on auto-pilot.

I think back to the mid 1980's and reading a "treasure" article in the newspaper. The story: A family member collected coins. From what I remember of this article throughout all the generations of family members no one was able to find where the coins were. Then in the mid-nineteen eighties there were painters inside this private residence taking the mouldings off the wall to obviously prepare the walls for painting........Oh how close all those generations were to the coins lol Once the painter took off the interior wall moulding they noticed the wall "turned in" All that I can say it was a cache dream come true when the painter pushed open the wall. Inside was a complete room to where someone could sit at a table and have a meal. (it was a small room though but enough to store a lot of things....) On the table were jars and jars and jars of old 1700's and 1800's coins! Nova Constellatio comes to mind as I remember them stating in the newspaper article that some of these coins were going to fetch $4000.00 or more in an auction.

Moral of the story. Sometimes the treasure is right there in front of us. So somewhere out there, people are hiking by Fenn's treasure every day lol
A hollowed out boulder with the goods inside? lol

Here is Forrest’s poem with nine clues to a million dollar treasure

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There’ll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know,
I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak.

So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.

Interesting video showing Fenn has recovered treasure after being planted. Fenn has said people have come within 250 feet of the treasure. Maybe he is cheating a bit haha [youtu.be]
