With these new detectors coming to market (plus the ones we already have).---Where does that leave the XP Deus in all this?----Is it still in "the running"?------I know it is still popular across the pond--but what about the U.S. now-a-days?-----What's the best Deus version & coil(s) for our mineralized iron sites (relics & coins)?-----It sure would make a nice traveling detector in my R.V. if the performance is there, got a nice 5 yr. transferable warranty also.----There's some questions for yah--go easy on me, I'm an ole man!winking smiley-----I think Jim TN needs one & maybe I do to! thumbs downsmiling smiley--------Thanks guys.------------Del

I just got a deus and really really like it.. no plans on getting an equinox ..just so many things to like about it. My thoughts are with the deus being upgradable and new coils just came out it's still a top performer ...

I heard a rumor that the Deus won't hit coins on edge but one way?
Not a good four way hit? Don't know if it's true but heard a couple People say that?

I know I have never swung an Equinox, but I have logged many hrs. with a Deus and I have a few opinions. First I will flat out say that the Equinox is not going to make your old sites new. It may find you a target or two the Deus missed, but then you just might find them with the Deus. From the videos I have observed the Nox is no better at target ID than the Deus. The Deus is deep enough for me....my dirt is pretty much just normal dirt. I like salt water hunting and that is where the Nox becomes very interesting to me. It isn't because of what it offers, but more of what the other salt water detectors didn't offer. The Excal and CZ weigh a ton. They cost more and the Excal is a fragile piece of crap that needs more nurturing than a 3 month baby. All just my opinions and anyone that disagrees will not upset me. Yeah on land the Nox can hunt with the big dogs, but so can the Deus.

World class iron sifter Del (that's what it's made for/excels at). Can be set to site conditions as it's very versatile.

Deep too if you know how to set it up for depth.

Well I have tons of hours on Deus.
In 4 bar ground will run circles around a lot of other detectors.
In mild ground deeper than Etrac and CTX.

Coil sizes is where you will have your trouble unless you buy a few.

Tot lot King is the elliptical HF coil for Deus. Can sniff out gold and smaller nonferrous.

Elliptical HF is also IMO in bad ground the leader(depth wise) on dime size nonferrous especially higher conductors.

Deus can be great in modern trash- key is running 4 or 8 kHz.

Version 4.1 the one I recommend.

9" LF coil is stellar performer in sites with iron.
11" LF coil will get you around another 1" of depth, best case scenario 2" depth.

Detector does chirp, but using HF elliptical scary quiet.

Round HF coil has advantage on both 9" LF and 11" LF coils p, but even it can't see see things the elliptical HF coil can.

HF coils do NOT allow for VDI normalization, unlike the LF coils.

I have zero experience with the bigger 11x13" LF coil.

I have had zero provlems with my units, have seen few problems had by other folks- I've been watching closely since 2014.

Lots of ways to run and be successful. But some target scenarios will only be gotten with certain settings setups, to include disc setting/freq.

11" LF coil use, coil makes detector slightly nose heavy.
9" LF coil feels good.
9" round HF balances even better than 9" LF coil due to battery location in stem.

So where does Deus stack up with all that is a available.
I can't answer right now.
Give me a few days weather permitting and I can hopefully answer better- cause Nox has entered into equation as of late.

If folks do buy Deus, for any warranty work you will need purchase receipt.
Registering your unit with Xp using their site won't get you warranty work done for free.

Headphones.
WS-5 I Don't like for 2 reasons.
Ear cups- folks have had trouble with them- I sold mine so quick I didn't use much.
Tones are too muffled for good iron work.
Ws-4 sound better for good iron work, and are very good to wear in hot weather.
Plus the module off of WA-4 can be removed and placed on aftermarket headphones.
There is a brand called call detecticks(sp) that get rave reviews. I have the Vance headphones- they are tight fitting even for folks with smaller heads. I sprung mine to make fit better.

Remote- don't buy Deus without.

Forgot one thing.
The grey ghost Deus compatible headphones- they sound muffled like the ws5 do. I gave mine away (tell you anything)

Del....... i dont think the EQ is going to be earth shattering for dirt digging. Just a lot of great machines out there. More and more hitting the market that learned from others mistakes. The Deus keep evolving.

Here are ways in which European detecting differs from US detecting (my opinions only based on some actual experience in Scandinavia and many years of following UK and European forums):

There are WAY more interesting targets (this is a “duh” conclusion - more than 2000 years of metal using)

U.S. style focus of tight ID of specific coins mostly doesn’t exist (coinage had changed MUCH more frequently and radically in Europe - we have had essentially the same coinage for more than 100 years)

Not much “low-end” Christmas/birthday present level detector participation (hobbyists who get into detecting typical “buy-in” at mid or high performance level)

Much less “playing with” detectors - air testing, test gardens, etc (this may be a result of the vastly greater opportunities to get out and find historically relevant finds)

Less “detector churn” most hunters own a single machine and don’t readily change (XP caused a revolution in Detector choice - causing a big replacement cycle).

Beach detecting is relatively less popular (a high percentage of users consider themselves historians more than “hunters”)

What conclusion (if any) to draw from this?

Well I have tons of hours on Deus.
In 4 bar ground will run circles around a lot of other detectors.
In mild ground deeper than Etrac and CTX

I would have to see this...Seen a lot of Deus's in action....none can touch the Etrac for depth!
In mild ground the E-trac would be insane!

[m.youtube.com]

In real mild ground there are a few that can be deeper (give tone) vs fbs types.

[m.youtube.com]

Aka Signum MFD I hear is deeper and not just in mild ground.

Yeah, I have nothing against Etrac. Hall a fame detector.

Using the other vlfs that can be deeper, odds are you won't know what you are digging though, except for nonferrous generally.

Detech Chaser in mild ground could find a deep dime and Etrac with stock coil might not even whiff. Like approaching 13" deep.

Deus is a great machine. Though deep... beyond 8 inches VDI goes out in my soil. Etrac will have vdi and tone to 10 on a silver dime (in clean soil with h little trash)
I’m at US silvers this year 15 have been with the Etrac and 1 with the deus. If that tells you anything. Just me.. Etrac slams silver.

Minelab Equinox 800
