Minelab Equinox, is there anything it can't do?

If God made a Detector would it be the Equinox?

Harold,
If I could pass on what I have been told.
You would maybe realize why the Nox is so good at doing certain things.

Can't say though.
Would be unethical for me to do.

And before anyone here gets to thinking.
I had nothing to do with Equinox prerelease period.

Just was passed some info.

Hint.
Study up on all I have posted about Nox.

Amazing thing is I seem to be the only here to catch on to what was going on with Nox.
And very likely why the person told me what they did.
Not bad for a what- wannabe detectorists. LoL

And my offer still stands, I'll test a VLF detector for any manufacturer.
For free if you like. That's right, when I'm done I'll box her up and send her wherever manufacturer likes.

I realize testing a detector is work too. But being retired, gives me some thing to do. Besides I love seeing what engineers have put together.

Can the Equinox bake bread and wash dishes? If so, I want one. Seriously, it's a good machine for the price, and will probably give the other new mid-level machines some stiff competition; but let's not get carried away.

If they come out with a version of the Nox that can ID like a E-TRAC or CTX with the Co-Fe numbers ....Nirvana!

Really? I love my Nox! I see some humor. No hate. The only guys that spew "hate" about the Nox are the ones that haven't swung one yet.

It doesn't matter if it works as long as you look good doing it.

The NOX makes you look like a pro, suave, debonair, worldly, sophisticated.........

The NOX will take a sub 60 i.q. mullet headed, 7 tooth, bacco chew'n bush wacker and convert him in the 70's version Tom Sellek and a damned Albert Einstein of metal detecting.....

Robin Leech will have you on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous if you swing a NOX

When you use a NOX the neighbors stand in line asking for you to dig in their yards

I think God made Man who in TURN makes Detectors. And there have been some detectors from inspired minds. But don't forget the devil in all this, always trying to stir the crap. I think the devil is behind pulltabs and zinc pennies. angry smiley

Good luck to ya Harold in sorting through all the most recent offerings and those that will be coming shortly. thumbs down LOL

It CANT id gold from pull tabs.... gum foil...or a lot of trash targets.. thats still on us to dig. But i do like there is a little separation on the low end from the CTX. Most foil comes in at 4 with chains and some small gold or gold on end at 1-2. Still cant get rid of the high tone on BIG iron... but most cant with high sensitivity. This machine seems to be about what i expected as a water machine..... yet i have NO WATERPROOF HEADPHIONES to test further. So apparently another thing they cant do is swap coils and waterproof phones lol.

It has the ability to make some think of nothing else. Between detecting and posting about detecting on multiple forums I really don't see how some people have time for anything else. But hey love is love. Who am I to to interfere in a beautiful relationship? It isn't the detector that turns people off it is the obsesiveness. And some have it to the point of making others puke.

That's one of the big reasons why I have been quiet about mine. I'm still learning, and I don't like rubbing it in people's face that I've got one while others are still awaiting theirs. I'm liking what I'm seeing thus far though. A lot. I'm gonna have to order some more Riker cases winking smiley

Hey Harold, yes, I found one thing the Equinox can't do. It can't get here fast enough <g>!

I just don't have enough time on the machine. These damn nor-easters then the ground froze again. We are getting a snow storm tonight as well! I have so much planned and no good weather to do it.

You’re on the spot man. It might be 10x what some say they are for doing what they do but having it jammed in my ass isn’t the way I’m going to buy it. I have an offer to compare the CTX to the Equinox on signals “across the street”. Haven’t had any takers yet, maybe soon.

I've been out clad/jewelry hunting with the CTX while my buddy uses his EQ800 in modern trash 4 times now and have put it to shame in both quantity and quality of finds every outing and shown the CTX to be much the better in the ID department. (tripled his nickles every time BTW) He is a newbie with it and not a tinkerer so the jury is still in session. I could have snagged the one in Canada I posted yesterday but declined. The 3% of targets the NOX MAY see that the CTX will not will most likely be 97% trash anyway and I can live with those odds for now.

I concur Shoveler....ID capabilities of the CTX,as long as the basics of detecting are employed, have no superior. That’s not even my opinion. I would agree to a coin hunting match with ANY machine to ID anything within detection range and determine which is more accurate. I will regularly dig a few “crappers” that come close to what I want to make sure things are as I think they are,and they always are. Junk? What’s that? I haven’t worn a pouch for junk in 2 years, haven’t had to. No lie,ask anyone who hunts with me. Nails and small scrap that gets dug with coins goes in my coat pocket. Wife LOVES that...
It’s weird, this Equinox thing. It’s well known that I have grown to LOVE my Minelabs. But it’s almost as though this new one is “tainted” for me by all of the BS that has surrounded it. I feel as though it would be a “pressure buy”,instead of something I need to achieve MY goals. As soon as I see a good number of people having recurring success hunting turf gold in junky parks...then I will be on board. But for now,we have the best ID in the business with the CTX,bar NONE.

Just a curious question and scenario.

If you were to take a CTX and say you had all the coils for it. If you were to run it in say Combined mode with tone profile to your suiting, and run the Fe line down to 32ish...how confident would you be that you removed the goods from an area? That is, if you could dig every signal you got, that was above your set Fe line?

I did just that. In my yard. I did it with the stock coil, then the 6 inch, then the 10x14 CoilTek and finally the 17". I dug every thing that was non iron. It took me a while, as in months, a little here and there but as the saying goes...how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. To cross check it, I had the eTrac with an arsenal of different coil sizes....from the 8" SunRay to the 13 inch Ultimate. And in addition, a NASA Tom tuned to 11.8 inches CZ with 8 and 10.5 inch coils. How confident would you be in that arsenal in picking out stuff?

Since you did not dig the iron, my opinion is that if you now go over that yard with the Equinox you MIGHT find things the CTX and Etrac were unable to unmask. Only "might" because unless your yard is unusually iron-filled, it's the type of place the ET/CTX probably still has the advantage. It's in the really trashy iron-filled places that the Equinox is likely to prevail (based on my limited experience), particularly if the site has already been pounded and the easy targets found.

Just heard from my detecting friend who is up in the Gettysburg area for the week. They have over a foot of snow - he may cut short his stay.
Sad to report that the NOX will NOT blow the snow away while detecting. SAD! So SAD!
