Tips from Tom regarding Head-Head comparisons.

Having been hit by yet another snow storm, I re-read some of Tom's articles.

With all the hardware tests going on, it seems like a good time to resurrect one of the great ones.

Before you test, or put great faith in tests done by others, read and digest...

Head-To-Head Comparisons

OUCH!!! Tom,as always, is the TRUTH DETECTOR !!

excellent flash-back! Thank you.

two thoughts: I want Tom on my team. Here on the dankowski.com forum is the right place to be for intelligent and in-depth discussion (most of the time/some of the time/occasionally/rarely?) The answer is up to us.

Very time consuming process, I know. Work too. And reverification needed some times.
I sure wasn't about to open my big mouth based on some of my head to head involcing Nox, without doing test again. Some times 3-4 more times again to be sure.

And I would highly suspect if anyone thinks NASA-Tom hasn't compared Nox and Xp Goldmaxx power (I think this is the unit he has) you are kidding yourself.

I agree.
I love reading others experiences and opinions here, when they're presented with measurable data in re-creatable scenarios.

Too often, the unrealistically lofty and biased view is posted with the "in my soil, at my site, for my style of hunting" caveat and given a pass as being called BS.
I move on from those quickly and go back to the technical and nerdy information I love.

On the other hand, it's also OK to simply say "I just really enjoy using detector Z" without presenting any metrics whatsoever.
I'll read those posts elsewhere, but not here.

I want my meat-n-taters detecting information on this site. My 0's and 1's nerdy stuff.

Anything Tom has to say i like to listen to. Hes keeping quiet on this one..... but with all the back yard gurus coming out of the woodwork id sure like more of his obserations/suggestions. His eyebrows must be raising on some of the stuff being posted lol. I dont care about comparisons as much as id just like to hear a good review done by him on the EQ.

I hope it's not that he doesn't have anything GOOD to say about it. You know, "if you can't say something good about..., don't say anything at all."

His eyebrows raising??
Wouldn't bet on that.

Quite the opposite.

But what do I know. I am just a back yard guru. Lol

You know, the Nox don't have much to change operation wise.
NASA-Tom could post here and give his whatever.

But why can't users do this?
It don't take an engineering degree to run Equinox. It does though to engineer.

Part of the good with Equinox is its simplicity to run and " get the goods".

If someone like NASA-Tom gives tips, ect.

How would the detector be graded then from manufacturer by detecting public's use.
Results would be skewed, right.

Folks who use Nox, post up your results.
Post up your opinions.
Post up recommendations to manufacturer.
Remember Equinox is updatable, Minelab will consider I'm sure all worthy suggestions if feasible.
And Minelab is reading here on this forum- count on it!!
Maybe someone should start a thread for suggested changes/improvements.

I like the fact the testers have limited their talk of the detecfor.
And by them doing, based on what I see posted thus far on various forums, it sure hasn't held the Nox back in finding the goods.

So, I don't need NASA-Tom's or any other testers' Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval on the Equinox.

Me saying this I sure don't mean any disrespect to any of the testers.
Quite the opposite actually.

Now some here have been members here and probably been looking and reading on this site a lot longer than I have.
Tell you what, if you have time, go back in history here and read. Read about the challenges brought to detecting in general.
There is some good stuff buried in this forum.
Still accessible too.

Ya... at least you know I was talking about. Seems you are trying hard for one of those testing jobs. But I noticed you like using his ... well and even Steves site. Might try u-tube who knows how many followers u might get. Good u have this one all figured out.

Minelab has a confidentiality agreement that must be signed in blood. Only thing I wonder is when are they released if the agreement?

I certainly like to here how the Nox compares in H2H with other machines, though i'd also love to here from say maybe Carl or Piemento as to what freqs the Nox is running, that's if they have had the time or access to a Nox to do so. It wouldn't influence my buying decision, but might influence my target selection lol

Amen to that

dewcon, I remember Tom said a while back, his approval or disapproval of a detector he tests could affect sales of that unit. If Tom where to come out now with a list of negatives on the Nox, they would cut into sales a bit. However, at this point in time, there are so many guys showing positive results with the nox, Toms word may not carry much weight. Now on the other hand, If Tom came out with a list if positives , how bad would it hurt First Texas, Nokta, Garrett, Deus, Tesoro, Whites, etc???? Especially direct comparisons.??? Those guys are already hurting. He is probably wise to keep his testing quiet. That way he doesn't need to hire body guards.

Ghound.... still be some time before we know how the machine will do in the water. Salt changes as does minerals in the hard pan. Of course we will have to see how responsive those phones are too. Targets and conditions change a lot by beach.... even by the hour with tide and wind shifts. Now Tom could add a great deal to how the machine does in wet sand. He really knows this machine... with many hours testing and suggestions to make this a very good salt water machine.

My thought is that your post is a thinly veiled self-aggrandising attack on Tom's integrity.

Tom has the ability to present the technical aspects of this subject to provide complete clarity.
It is however, entertaining and informative to see and hear all of the opinions out there when it comes to head to head comparisons.

If Tom D cannot reveal the results of the EQ testing he has done....why bother testing?....Possibly because he was running the EQ through the ringer for ML and ML only.
Or the test results were not as good as ML thought they would be and certain terms were written, if that were the case. He's probably chomping at the bit to show the test results.

These are his public statements here on this forum.

Tnss, thanks, now I remember....I have a very short memory.....I guess Tom's tests will be here when the time is right....not necessarily when the time is right for us, though.

This wasn't specifically referencing Equinox comparisons, rather head to head tests in general. Certainly not meant to be yet another Equinox thread, as I have no interest in it at this time.

I had been looking at some tests done in the past for the Impact (my machine) while reading the VERY detailed Impact testing notes Tom had posted.

Going back and forth between the tests and Tom's notes, I saw how many variables were not accounted for.

Sometimes testers think they're being thorough, but all bases are not covered.
