CTX PULLS A NICE RELIC TODAY AT EARLY/MID 1800s HOUSE SITE!

Hey All,

braving the cold here today (39 degrees) went out for a 2.5 hr hunt after getting off work early (12:00/noon) = love being my own boss

Got permission on a new 1840s - 1860s site where a house once stood and with the trusty CTX in hand with the stock coil hitting an area that would have been out behind the house/away from the more heavily iron concentrated area I dug some of the usual targets as time was passing. Bits of lead, rivet, spoon, broken pocket knife, etc. and then out of nowhere I get a soft deep modulated high tone in an area with a bit of iron present but it was coming through solid and I could tell it was deep (really deep). It kept singing high tone and reading 12/45 11/47 and back/forth with target trace a solid blob towards the lower right hand corner and so I dug and out came a beautiful pin/brooch at a good foot deep! It has to be coin silver. It reads 12/45 all day once out of the ground but I can't find any markings so I know it's of the earlier Victorian period (1840s - 1860s) just by the style of the woman's dress engraved on it!

Spent about another hr after that diggin more odds/ends (a buckle, lantern part, etc) but also managed to get an 1868 Shield Nickel and a 1865 Injun closer to what would have been the front of the house. All in all it was a good hunt since having got skunked the last 2xs out which is why I haven't posted any finds/hunts in a couple of weeks and/but I'll be going back this weekend with the trusty Deus to hunt the heavy iron to see what I can pull

Yep = that's my guess just based on time/period and no markings on the piece but it's definitely silver

I can dig 1700 Spanish reales in California, but I can't seem to get my coil over a shield nickel Someday....

We're you think that broach was going to be a half dollar when you got the hit?

wasn't sure what it'd be but I was pretty sure it'd be silver whatever it was. When I 1st seen it I thought silver dollar but noticed it was oblong and not round so it was one of those = "what the heck?" type moments for a minute there!

Gotta listen for those shield nicks - they don't hit like other nickels tone wise or # wise either = they hit lower tone. If you know the etrac/ctx and use 4 tones - they will be the tone just above iron usually and especially in iron. Same on a deus if you use 4 tones and depending on orientation they can sound like junk sometimes. Keep at it = you'll get one!

New machine will come and go BUT the CTX will always be a winner in my book! Congrats on the great finds!

Depends on the type of site AND soil they come out of.

I’ve dug a few so crusty you could barely tell what they were and I’ve dug a few better looking than this one

I’m lucky enough to pull a few finds per yr like the one above in my area but I sure wish I could dig those confederate buttons like you’all do down south! I’ve dug 2 in my life - that lined A cuff button with no loop on the back but a rare one and that block I coat button that’s pushed Both came out of that ghost town I hunt where a stagestop and P.O. sat as well as a gen store and other structures.

But - You guys dig stuff we can only dream of digging around here and you’ve shown a lot of impressive finds that I’d xxxx my pants if dug
