Is there any way to amp up the AT Pro?
June 29, 2018 12:51AM
I am not an electronics technician / engineer by any means and curious if there is a way? I specifically love the AT Pro and 5x8" coil (especially for my deep woods hunting adventures) and would love to get another couple inches out of this setup. Any info is greatly appreciated.

The 5 x 8 coil that you are using, is it a Garrett? I had Garrett's 5 x 8 on my A T Pro and was getting what I considered to be pretty lean depth. Went to a NEL Sharpshooter and did get an additional 2" + of depth. Don't know if all Garrett's 5 x 8's are created equal, as many swear by them, but the one I had was definitely lacking. HH jim tn

I had an AT Gold. When I turned the ground balance neg about -20 the depth went up quite a bit. With the 5x8 coil hit was hitting good on my 9" test dime. A surprising gain on depth.

What Rick said. A negative offset does increase depth with the Pro, how much the ground will allow with sufficient stability varies.

Mr. Jim,

Yes, this is using the Garrett 5x8" coil. Also, I didn't realize the NEL Sharpshooter provided that much of a depth difference!
Thanks for the info. smiling smiley

Mr. Rick,

I have done this with the Pro. I usually only went with a 10 point drop from where it GB's. I will have to do further testing with dropping it further. Thank you.

I had the AT Pro for a few years, decent detector, the iron audio was good, hated the micro display, was good in iron for sure, but in our mineralized soil it lacked depth that other higher end detectors were getting.

Well yes..... there's a website names LETGO.
Sell the AT PRO and purchase a ML Nox 800.

Your AT PRO issues are now 100% resolved.

That's funny Grant. The real funny part is that I have an E800. smiling smiley However, I still like the AT Pro with the 5x8 for woods hunting. This little combo has netted me some of my best finds in my long career of detecting.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using any Garret detector.

Here are some of the latest Garret user accessories.

Couldn't resist.... sorry

There are some who say the AT Max IS an amped up AT Pro. I had a Pro and traded in on a Max. That's something for you to consider, I'd think. And if the NEL Sharpshooter can add depth to the Pro, perhaps it can do likewise for the Max?
Both the Pro and the Max have their detractors, as do all detectors and brands, but they DO account for tons of great finds and their audio is superior to many other machines, IMO.
