How to tell you've been detecting too much.....

We have a digital outside-air-temp thermometer in the house. I caught a glimpse of it a while ago, reading 98d, and just for 1/2 a second I was thinking "possible silver". Hopeless, just hopeless.

I carry a small towel in my left hand along with a small digger and this morning at 9a I wrung it out and was able to squeeze a few drops of sweat out of it. I agree! "Hopeless, just hopeless!" HH jim tn

When you look at the #'s on the gas pump & start thinking of your detector screen #'s.----Hopeless, just hopeless!

when you are hunting in a Georgia creek and the temp is above 90, the creek is slimy, smelly and you haven't found a thing in two hours and you are thinking " I'll just go around one more curve", at each curve.

When your teeth are like stars because they come out at night you know you have been digging way to long.

When you pass a old 17 to 1800's home and say "bleep bleep" out loud......then picture yourself knocking on the door getting permission.

When you get home from a hunt after paying x amount of money for a detector, paying over $3.00/gallon for gas and driving 40 miles one way, in temps. over 80 degrees, and dig a quarter 3 dimes a nickel and 2 pennies for the whole day and say I can't wait to do this again.

When your wife tells you that you shouldve married your metal detector..yikes!!

When I first got the e-trac, when the time was 12:45p I thought, that's silver.

When you use a hammer and screwdriver to chisel a penny out of the frozen ground.

Just back from an anniversary (46) celebration trip to Las Vegas (NV) where I spent 46 minutes hunting at 111 degrees and found 2 nickels and an old Ford key. The wife can't grasp why I was not seeing it as a waste of time. Well: A) How many go to Vegas and come back with 2 nickels to rub together? I've done worse. C) I lived to hunt another day. D) I didn't break or lose any equipment.

I tell people this is a hobby for people who don't mind spending a thousand dollars to find pennies. Of course, you don't HAVE to spend a grand. I passed that mark LONG ago.

All that said, maybe if the wife still puts up with you, you haven't been detecting enough! But, then that has more to do with her than anything else. I thank the dear Lord for my sweet wife and that she has no idea how much I've spent on toys, uh, tools for my physical therapy/hobby.
