Proudly ignorant and aggressively unpleasant is not the proper attitude for this forum. This forum is a place where we learn from each other's experiences. You have no direct experience with the Equinox, and thus you have nothing useful to convey to others.

Hey I would not have had to post half the comments I have if I had not had to defend myself because you lot get Butt hurt over a simple comment, Again "Every" Detector has it's Issues and I mean "EVERY DETECTOR"

Get over it.

Yep, you will hear me talk very little about a detector I have not used.
For good reason.

I can speculate about any model really I have never ran or owned.
What good would it go anyone??

The ole Equinox, popular bugger ain’t it. Even folks who don’t own and never plan to it seems like to keep discussing it.

Cheers.

Wow 4 or 5. That's like everybody! I think they only made 6 of them.

John.

You realy know your stuff. Your posts abou the MXT made me buy one and it is a joy to use.

But regarding the NOX 800 it is actually very simple,... you switch it on and make only the least amount of adjustments.
Don’t overthink, don’t overread,...

Go out and make a find. Then another and another,... and suddenly it hits hard and strong on something you weren’t expecting.
That’s the multi frequency for you and all the blablabla goes out the door.

Untill they have got a decent spread of coils it it just another wrench in the toolbox.

People who are complaining have sold their other machines hoping the NOX 800 would replace them all.
It may, but right now it is just an 11” DD coil hunting in multifrequency very fast.

And where do we want that the most,... a recon unit.

Don’t dumb down the tech and make that horse run on 3 legs or make it run single frequency.

Think Recon and them hit em hard with the heavy ordenance :-)

I agree, ML are quick off the bat coming up with new coils and Tune Up software which means it's only going to get better and better, and they won't stop until it is all it can be. The GM has my eye but if they can get the Nox running just as hot in it's many modes we might see some of the folks who sold theirs going back to the Nox, It's only a young machine so it needs to be given a chance to prove it's self once ML have done what ever they thinks it needs.

When I used the Equinox 600 I found it to be very similar to the X terra's I have owned. My experience with it was pretty good but I did feel that it had a little trouble with bent nails but so do the other Minelab multi frequency detectors in my experience. Other than that I did have a lot of fun using it, I like the light weight and the water proof aspects and I think it should do even better with the smaller coil attached in the trashy areas. As far as obsoleting single frequency detectors I wouldn't go that far. I feel from the late1980's to today metal detectors have been very good and you can find coins and jewelry with any number of them, some better than others sure, but I think its easy to fall into the latest greatest trap when the detector companies start making wild claims. They are all guilty of that because they are trying to sell a product. But in my humble opinion they are all reaching the point where they are just reinventing the wheel.

Absolutely, I totally agree, I have waited since 2005/6 for ML to bring back a machine with a fast recovery, It's good to see them with a machine that can cover 95% of detecting needs.

Thanks for the report on the 6" coil, maxxkatt, which is appreciated. Sounds like you feel the coil is worth having, and I will probably get one myself, if the positive reports continue.

To respond to some of the other posts, I think it's quite proper to ask how the Nox with 6" coil compares to other machines with small coils. That's got to be the main question for anyone who, like most of us, already has a favorite-machine-with-small-coil.

As to whether the Nox obsoletes all other single frequency VLF machines, well, all I can say is Minelab sure has gotten a lot of mileage out of that advertising puffery. I guess the fact that people are even debating semi-seriously whether the Nox lives up to the hype is a tribute to the machine's performance.

The Nox does seem to find more targets than most. It also finds more trash. That is a gain, I guess.
