Well I am a deep coin hunter so depth is everything too Me. And not many Detectors New or Old can Hit a 12" Indian head penny with a 8" coil even in Mild Ground.

Everyone has their favorite for a variety of reasons. Any I want back? Nope. I am very happy with what I have. I grew up on Whites units. I loved them at the time I had them. Compared to the last few I have owned from multiple manufacturers they just don't come close. I'm with TNSS......today's detectors have taken a leap in technology. Oh I still have the Sovereign GT for wet sand hunting. But to be honest the Nox might dethrone it. The only reason I will keep it is for a backup, and I just know I'll never get what I think is a fair price. The Nox made it obsolete! The only model of detector that I had two of that performed differently was the ATPro. I had one that was bad and one that was really bad.

Actually I was talking about My Old Nautilus IIBa, But a 'Proper' CZ can do it also. CZ is hotter on Silver, But Nauty has it on Old V-Nickels and Buffs.

I wish I still had my Gold Bug SE 2.9 version.

Sold it in one of those "I have too many dang machines" moments.

I think that moment is upon me again !

My Original Ireland Manufactured Etrac. It was really, really good.

We're there any that came and went and I didn't grab while they were there ? Perhaps the White's XL-Pro.

sorry 'bout that harold!..i know you are a big cz fan too,so
i made that connection!..in any event, the cz is one deep mother,
and it can consistently get down around 10 "or so,and as harold pointed out,
yes, i believe also that it could hit the chief at that depth, especially if is "tom tuned!"

The human flesh and mind is never fully satisfied; it will only find temporary fixes and then begins WANTING again.

In our case on a metal detecting forum, we go full circle. We always want the "next big thing" and when we get the next big thing, it may or may not temporarily occupy us. You'll either start looking ahead to the NEXT big thing, or looking back. If there are no newer next big things to catch our eye, we start looking back at past big things that we've let go of and start wanting those back. There is no end to it.

Classic cars and muscle cars, I can get on board with that. Not as daily drivers though. Maybe to take on a weekend drive, or to a rod run or car show. Otherwise, gimme a hybrid Rav4 or something that can go 550 miles on a single tank of gas, and costs $30 to fill it back up to the brim to go 550 more miles. Dad had a 1970 Chevelle SS when I was a kid. Looked good. Sounded good. I think it got about 8 to 9 mpg. He sold it to my uncle who some years later, wrapped it around a tree while drag racing on an old country highway.

Some folks obviously may be more cramped for time in learning newer released unit.
So they feel insecure and stick with their older.

There is more to saying one detector can find things others will.

Things like better audio alerting, actual slightly better coil span for detection.
More sweep speed forginving.
Lighter, so a person can stay using longer in the field with more proper swing technique, coil massaging say in heavier iron.
Better Emi handling on average.
Faster recovery.
Digital setup vs analog, to allow finer tuning or more consistent settings.

I’ll ask here again cause this has been mentioned here on this forum loads.
Where are the hot Etracs, CTXs, Racers, Impacts, Deus, Multi Kruzers, Equinoxes?

There really are none of these, or maybe better said all are hotter. For good reason too.

Also noted what has happened as of late with coil progression.
Seems a lot wider freq range is indeed doable with actual performance.
Xp has done.
Minelab has done.
Ten years ago this was maybe unthinkable.
I sure don’t know what the true limits are here doing this.

There will always be those who choose the old road vs the newer road.
Nothing wrong with this.
But blanket statements made these older as as good at locating nonferrous targets vs the newer (some at least) - I don’t and won’t believe.

I would like to get my very first Coin$trike back. I've had 4 others since but they didn't match the first one. The first one had a high voltage like hum around the edges, like those star wars light sabers in the movie and I could hear the crackle of the ground minerals in the background when it was balanced. Like hearing the stars twinkle. Very unique. I think it had to do with an early repair as I had to send it in for repair shortly after I go it.

That is the only one I can't replace.

Yep Mike those Coinstrikes had a love it or hate reputation. I wish they could of handle steel crown caps better like the CZs. They did not have the CZ type Modulated audio either. But they did have the CZ type depth at least the Good ones did.

Good description Mike. I got one from the first run that lived for 2 weeks before going belly up. Fisher sent me a new one via Blue Label and it was hot, very hot.
Now about that instruction manual. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

The ID Edge was one I always wanted to have again and I found a closet Queen last year on the bay. Had to fix the cables but not a big deal. Got a 6" coil from Texhunter with the good cable along with a spare 8" and I'm set.

The Id Edge along with the old Fisher 1236-X2 are two of my favorites and have both put the goods in my pouch.

In the back of my mind I think my AT Pro. I sold my AT Pro to buy an Equinox 800 and 6 inch coil. I am still wondering if I had spent as much time learning the AT Pro (and more about metal detecting) like I have with my 800 I would have maybe not sold my AT Pro. Some times good quality simple machines like the AT Pro are better for some people like me than the more complex 800. But for now, I am not planning to sell the 800 and return to the AT Pro.
