Mamma bear with a cub can be a "situation" all right.----Still might not be as bad as a Cougar stalking you (no warning).

A big cat in the woods sounds that can walk around silent.....that's a scary thought.

In some cases--you represent no more than a "walking lunch" for them.

Since the back of the neck is the preferred target for a mountain lion I have often wondered, after having the hair on my neck stand up when in big lion country detecting,if having a high collar made of a stab resistant material would offer any protection, real or imagined. This would be a la "Leather Necks"---all you ole Jar Heads know this term.

Anyway this feeling is Real in lion country.

Hey Doc----Speaking of the hair on the back of your neck! smiling smiley-----This is a true story----A friend of mine was hunting Elk out here in OR.----He was hunting in the forrest area of the mts. and there was snow on the ground.---He was making large circles (hunt area) and when he came back over his area he seen the Cougar tracks that was stalking him (following him).-----He said he could just feel the hair on the back of his neck stand up.----He immediately got out of the tree area and the Cougar gave it up---he wouldn't stalk/follow him out in the open area out of the trees.------Another true story-----This guy was a "faller"--cut trees out here for harvest.----He just got an uneasy feeling like you get sometimes when you feel someone's watching/staring at you.----He carefully looked all around & spotted a Cougar staring at him (looking for a lunch, I guess).----He said he slowwly backed out of there & got out of that area.-------When they outlawed hunting Cougars with hounds out here, the Cougar population increased dramatically & ranchers started loosing more stock to them & the deer population suffered.-------Ok, back to the regular m.d. broadcasts! LOL--------Del

Del, I can relate to the hair standing up on your neck--it's an eerie feeling. I've never actually eyeballed a cat stalking me,but have seen Many big tracks and in the trees or large rocks it's something that is always on your mind.

Ok, back to dem Bares .
