What I'd like to know

Please know that I'm not being a smart hind end, cause I'm just about ready to order one. But has anyone ever had a bad day swinging an Equinox 800?
Re: What I'd like to know

If you think it will make that old site new......It won't. If you want a nice detector to upgrade and be happy with. A fine choice.

I haven't. It's not the miracle wand some make it out to be, and plenty of room for improvement in a few areas. But for the price, especially if you have a military connection and can get it for the cheaper price or have a great dealer.

I have not had a bad day swinging any detector. Like a lot said, old sites will not come to life. I feel the 600 is a great detector for the money. The 800 is getting into a used XP Deus territory which I feel is a better detector especially with the X35 coil. If your an old coin hunter there is a lot of Etrac's and CTX 3030s right now for good prices also. A used 600 for 500 bucks would be a good deal though and hard to pass up. The Nox does lack a good coil selection though.

Bill to answer your question YES. It was a bad day because I didn’t find that much, but I didn’t expect too due to which detectors had been in the sites.

Can it make a site seem new again?
Absolutely.
Be there are a few kickers.

Which detectors have been in your sites and how mineralized the soil is in your sites.

A few examples.
In what is referred to as 4 bars ground on a Fisher F75 detector or even 5 bars.

You can hunt behind F75 in ground like above using Nox and make finds.
If you try to hunt behind Deus and HF coils you’lll find less finds.
If you hunt behind Deus and LF coils you’ll find more than found hunting behind Deus and Hf coils.

Next hunting in iron.
Equinox with stock coil can hunt behind Say At Pros, At Maxs, Deus with LF coils, Fisher F75, Nokta Impact, Makro Racers— all these wearing stock coils.

Milder ground a person not as likely to have as much success hunting behind the above detectors. But some success will be had due to the depth Equinox properly IDs compared to the above when it comes to depth, these finds users of these other detectors, detector lies with ID hence a person might walk moreso.

Hunting in modern trash.
Nox here is above average. Pretty good using mulit freq, and some targets higher conductive can be head using single freq 5khz.

Now, Equinox will hit small stuff too, it usually IDs small foil in the 1-4 region.
But due to masking it is very possible due to Nox application with the higher freqs using multi frequency, some things coin size, relics -nonferrous can be had. And these targets could be missed with lots of other detectors even if you showed a user of one of these detectors where the Nox is alerting on suspect target.

Versatile detector, I think it is really the first jack of all trades detector ever released.
Salt beach
Freshwater beach
Higher mineral soil
Lower mineral soil
Higher tendency Emi sites
Waterproof
Gold nuggets
Relics
Coins
Jewelry to include micro
Light weight
Not overly expensive
Above average ID capabilities at deeper depths

Are there other detectors that can do the above ? Yep, but imo not as good in all categories listed above.
Some actually may be stronger than Nox in a category or 2.

A bad day with the Equinox is like a bad day with any other detector. It just means that you didn't swing it over any good targets.
Re: What I'd like to know
September 14, 2018 12:09AM
Hell yes.... ive had days when I wondered why I was swinging it. Was it just the weight......would I be using it is say the CTX was that light. I bought to find small gold on the beach. I recently got 3 gram chain... but not with the Nox. Ive not found anything thus far my Xcal or CTX wouldnt have. Before the update she was chatty in the water.... so a lot more work than the quieter Xcl Nd CTX. Lets face it bottle caps are a pain we also dont deal with much with the other machines. Its faster.... but not nearly as much trash out there. Now the update. ....higher sensitivity in both modes and they made it smoother at say 18. But at what expense? I think small gold..... the very reason I bought it. One of those ...if it runs smooth and higher sensitivity it must be better. It may well be on coins. But I think we are still ring hunting....dont thing we really gained for gold....and you dont know what you missed if u missed it do you. Some will have confidence with the machine....especially those who never used a water machine much. Ive got over 600 +hours on the old program....now will it take me 600 more to know small gold is unlikely.

Can one go to Heaven if one doesn't have/buy a Nox??

Re: What I'd like to know

Bill,

Sure, I've had "bad days" with it, but no more than with any other machine. On the other hand, I've had as many -- if not more -- "good" days with it, than with any other machine I've used. It's just a fun machine to swing, in my opinion, and it is impressively capable in a variety of environments, on a variety of targets.

The Equinox’s tears cure cancer. Too bad it never cries.

LOL...good question. Ultimately in the end we all have a a just Judge. The answer is, Yes one can go to Heaven even if one doesnt have a Nox. Other forums will tell you otherwise.

yes! read the good book, and believe in the lord, and the lord will let you in,even if you don't buy the "nox!"

The bad days for me (with any detector) are when after a day out, getting skunked and thinking I wasted a day when I should have been doing x, y, z and getting chores/projects checked of the never ending "to do" list. It's a guilt thing I guess.

I disagree. See my videos.

Will you have a bad day? What's your definition of a bad day? The machine will find anything provided it is there to be found. I would say you will have bad days, just like with ANYTHING else in life.

I hunted my hunted out site and found three coins. One silver dime...A nice surprise
One Buffalo Nickel....Big deal.....I attribute that to just digging a signal and trying to learn
And a Brand new penny.....

I guess everyone has their own definition of what hunted out is.

Oh and prior to this I have pulled over a hundred coins out of there myself including over 60 Indian heads.

Not to mention other hunters I took there.

When I see those hunted out posts it makes me laugh. Especially when they post clad and matchbox cars and nickels.

If you pull a bunch of high conductors out of there you are showing nothing but poor definition of "hunted out" or how terrible of a job you did.

But go ahead and invest 800.00 bucks for three silver dimes. I don't care.

You want to impress me? Post how you found a brand new site that has escaped the other hunters. Not that I took the last five brand new detectors to the same old site post.
Re: What I'd like to know

The term hunted out.

Means different things to different folks maybe.

Take a Etrac or CTX to a site with a couple coils and live in for a long while multiple times one will get most of the detectable medium and high conductors. These 2detector not cheap.
Btw, both of these detectors seem to hold higher conductive ID of targets buried more accurate than lower conductive detected near and in iron.

Equinox here works backwards, it holds better lower conductive ID of targets better vs higher conductive.

Some folks will dig only coin ID targets. Does this mean they get all coins? Nope
Some folks will dig any and all nonferrous reading targets. Does this mean they get all nonferrous in a site? Nope

Even an experienced detectorists, the more coil time with proper coil management the better their odds of finds. Enter weight and balance of detector.

Imagine if FBS type detectors would have weighed and balanced like Equinox when they debuted and continued to be updated with later models.
Would more coins have been located using? Yep

Not all folks own and use higher costing and usually higher performing detectors.
So when we use the term hunted out as far as a site, it must be conditionalized.

I don’t think it is just luck how Equinox was engineered and designed.
I truly think the entire detector market was studied very closely hence Minelab’s goal to make a one detector does most or all above average.

Some folks will never like Equinox just like some other models.
Some folks will love.
Some folks will use Equinox like me to bridge other detectors depending on a few things site wise and how I feel at the time for swinging a heavier detector.

Still no actual Equinox tester hasn’t posted much really.
Has this hurt Equinox sales ?
I don’t think so.
Has this turned off some folks?
Maybe a few.

Is their good data by users available as far as Equinox? Yes
Actually based on how long released a whole lot of info by a lot of different folks.
And guess what?
A lot of the info posted is very similar or mirrors a lot of shared info.

So I look forward to the next release by Minelab, other manufacturers too,

I see the difference. Your site was not hunted out. Mine was.....and by a good hunter.

Well, I see you take to disagreement like a 5 year old. No point in trying to have a civil discussion with you.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I should have phrased my question a little different. I agree with Welgund. I've never had a bad day swinging any detector either.
Does anyone know whether or not you can replace the battery yourself on the Nox or do you have to send it in.

You can replace it yourself.
