Long hunt Eqx 800 6”coil compared to Makro Kruzer 7” concentric coil.

I spent around 6 hours today with a fellow detectorist in a site with both old and modern history. Area littered with modern trash galore and some iron.

Every target located with each detector was compared using other detector.

Both Detectors did well.

I ran the Nox, other gent ran the Kruzer (Not multi Kruzer) .

Soil in this site milder for my area. Three bars on Fisher F75.

No targets found over 6”deep.

Kruzer alerted on all nonferous targets located with Nox but 2. Both were beaver tails.

Kruzer pointed out 2 targets as no dig me’s the Nox called dig me’s. One target a rusty nail the other a thin piece of tin something.

Each person ran their own detectors, eqxh target was discussed openly verbally before digging on what each of us thought about each target.

I was impressed with Makro Kruzer performance. As impressed with it as I was with Equinox performance.

Nothing old found really. And strangely enough only one nickel (initially located with Nox).

After the 6 hours of comparing while detecting, my hunting bud broke out his quest 20 detector.
We compared a few signals with him using it and me the Nox.
Quest seemed to do the job in this site.
Actually it found best find of the day. A religious cross made of higher conductive material.
This is one of a few targets that actually wasn't compared to Equinox.

Most coins found were clad dimes.

It was very apparent after targets were dug why many still existed in this site. Site has seen loads of detecting action in the past.
The nickel located was actually being masked by a clad quarter and a pull ring with beaver tail stilll attached.
And the clad quarter here was actually being masked by the nickel. When I say masked here, I am referring to location of other nonferrous highly likely caused the coins ID when swept previously with bigger coil to be in error hence these coins were walked right by.

I really enjoyed the day. Was tired when we quit.

Btw, it is Oct here. But if you look at the trees you would think it is later Aug. I have never seen anything like this. Green as a gourd here and with more hit days coming . Farm fields with hay cut just a few weeks days ago are growing back fast. This may cause problem for me later on for detecting.

Nice comparison post! Btw, it's October everywhere, not just there.

Sounds like they both did well.

I'm hoping to do some similar comparisons between the MMK & EQ800, but in some tough, highly mineralized dirt later this month.

Lol! Why does everyone always beat me to these things??
It’s supposed to be 78 degrees here in southern WI next week...so maybe we just won’t have winter this year! Good by me,as long as there aren’t any mosquitos...
Nice work with the comparisons TN. For me,it’s probably not so much what the MACHINE is actually capable of,rather...it’s what IM capable of interpreting, and I think that plagues a lot of people who perhaps don’t “click” with a machine. Interpretation is everything.

True.
But both operators today interpreting their detectors, overall imo equal performance. Each machine as far as coins goes each would have located every single one. No question.

So yes the EQX or Kruzer may not be for you.

All I can do is honestly report (objectively) what I witnessed.

Thanks TN for a good objective report.

We hunted close to creek, so gravel prevents huge sink rates.

Btw, small coil airtest on Nox.
Park 2 speed 4 sens 25..
Clad dime like between 11”-11.5”

Clad nickel like between 12.5-13”

Little honker of a coil on a honker detector.

And no, data above no typos. The real deal.

It is my opinion based on testing, using Equinox with both small and stock coil.
Small coil strengths is modern trash moreso, seeking correct ID of targets.
Stock coil strengths leans more towards hunting in iron.
Both will work in both places. But small coil is a modern trash monster.
I have said this before, as far as in iron performance. Equinox is for whatever reason when you compare performance overall- not as much difference in the small and stock coil vs lots of other detectors I have tested and used.

It was a great comparison day and I had a blast comparing signals. I was amazed at how fast you could swing the 800 with that 6" coil and grab a signal. It was my first day out with the 7" concentric on the Kruzer. I can see why many say they left the coil on and basically retired the stock coil.

I even had fun breaking out the backup, the Quest Q20. For me it's one of the best bang for the buck, entry level units and a fun park hunter. It's got a really fast recovery speed to it. Now those flattened aluminum screw caps sounded too good BUT they always hit just a point or 2 less than any coin target. You get more than the $259 entry fee (GB, EMI shield you can turn on/off) and the 5x8 DD is perfect for trash. I like it just for the simplicity.

Look forward to crossing paths yet again, TNSS.

Nice comparison, does quest have concentric coils?

Not that I'm aware of. I believe they only have the two coils, both being DD configuration.

After using the 6 inch coil a few times on the Equinox 600 I can say that it is a deep coil for the size. It is a pleasure to swing and pinpoint with. Everything you could want from the coil it delivers. Here is the burn......The stock coil does just fine in the junk. I really didn't find anything with the little coil that the stock coil would not have found. Minelab got it right with that stock coil. Those wishing for an 8 inch coil should just be happy with the stock.
