Re: ON THE HORIZON = MDT-8000

Heres a couple of recent finds...... ive had the machine just a little over 2 mos. But.... a death in the family, the flu and other issues keep me away from the beach a good 3 weeks. Looks like if i havent paid for this machine im awfully close. That 14k was an interesting find. I hit it in shallow water and sounded really shallow...... 5 digit. I watch 4 and 5 digits especially. I PPed...... took a small scoop off..... nada.... still there. So..... having done this before i must have circled the hole a dozen times to see if i was being fooled...... nope right there in the middle.... AGAIN. BUT..... it still ended up being one of those that stayed in place after digging a hole to China. Another one of those ive got both feet on each side of the hole.....ugh. Thou it doesnt sound like it...... my PPing with this machine has been pretty good....... but i keep running into these exceptionally deep ones. After the first scoop ..... if its still there i take extra care in trying to properly locate the target as well as not over dig. These water machines pay for themselves, especially the deep ones. This is about a $325 melt couple of days...... and 15 golds so far ive shown using the MDT. The beaches i hunt are popular...... i was telling Cliff the other day i saw a total of 13 hunters.... most was in the wet or dry sand. Got a new club in the area now ...... so its even busier.... and they like their Noxs.

Very nice Dew, sounds like your getting a workout w that 8000!

Daniel - Glad you were able to get Chris’s 8000, find some deep relics in his memory and let’s see some videos!

TNSS -- Thanks a bunch!! I sent those to Chris's brother and he said it should help them tremendously. I had only saw the unit itself and the headphone pigtail so I didnt even know what the charger or cable looked like. Chris's family is trying to round all of it up so he can meet me and buy it. He's kinda playing the middle man.

You are welcome.
You’ll be ready for those coastal visits this summer using Tarsacci.

Thanks. I’ve rigged my Nox phones to work on the MDT8000 and although they will “work”, the phones don’t quite gender up correctly, I had to set them just right in the pigtail plug and wrap with waterproof tape. Sounds bad, but it worked. Good to hear he’s making them for the T’sacci now. May contact him when I get my next $$ windfall. Then start saving money for the Aquapulse... the beat goes on... love that.

From some the posts back in the beginning, I've been under the assumption that the Tarsacci is not 100% waterproof. Has anybody been submerging the unit for long periods?

Couple quotes here from page 33 of this thread.

I believe Tom mentioned it was the speaker which was more of the concern not the cap. But ....I’m very careful when I enstall mine. I inspect the O rings....and the cap....just like any other machine where I open it and it goes in the water.

That's right. I remember that post now that you mention it.

So most of you guys are just hunting in knee deep water. I've always thought of water hunting as being chest deep and submerging everything. When I said a while back that nobody water hunts the beaches up here, that's what I was thinking it meant. We wade in the water with our beach machines all the time in the summer, sometimes just to cool off, but only out to knee deep or so.

I believe there are some who are submerging their machines. Maybe they don’t want to advertise it for some reason. I was told OK to submerge so I plan on doing so when water temps rise just a bit more. When I do I will post the results.

I talked with Dimitar this evening, according to him (as stated in the previous post), yes the 8000 can be submerged, up to 1.5 hrs, but not for scuba diving.

For those of us who are just wading (like myself) and the box is most of the time above water it’s not gonna be a problem.

I know there are others that have recently bought the MDT, having trouble understanding why no further chatter about this machine. The more I use it the more I'm falling hard for this machine. I've got an Equinox and a CTX gathering dust now, something about the MDT that just clicks for me and I know I haven't got the final tweaks done to it, yet it continues to impress.

One thing that is amazing is the battery life on this machine. Somewhere around 17-20 hours on a battery and I'm still showing 3 bars and 3.6 volts, that is the point I normally change the battery and charge the somewhat depleted one.

Took the wife to the beach today and while she took a walk, I took the MDT out. Less than a two hour hunt and only 12 non ferrous targets (bad day) 7 square tabs, 2 ring pull tabs, 2 clad dimes and this piece of yellow.

Water find, waist deep, two scoops. TID was bouncing and I really thought it was another deeper square tab (number kept coming back to about 7). Settings 9KHz, Salt 30, Black Sand off, Threshold -1 and Sensitivity 7.

Trying to catch up to you Dew!

Now that I know Cliff’s wife is his good luck charm.....I may have to pay her off...lol. Hey I’m just glad Cliff is a few hours away..... man knows how to hunt. Then he’s at least a head taller than me. So when he put on that snorkel....I’m at a real disadvantage. Don’t let him fool ya he gets his share of what’s out there. Those 18k ..... now that’s a real good day Cliff. I know it’s not what Dimitar wants to hear....but it’s nice not having everyone out there with this machine. I tweak the settings sometimes...but for the most part they run as is. Like I’ve said...I’m digging I know PI depth on some of my finds. Main thing is coil control I think. I know Cliff...he will get rolling once Summer starts with people in the water.

Is there anyone using the MDT in fresh water? Only just got mine last week, had it in the water 2xs now. Most of my water hunting is in a a old lake w over 100 years of activity, there’s a lot of iron there due to a old dock there used to be on beach. Dimitar suggested I run in salt to deal better w the iron. I’ve been doing that and running sensitivity about 7 and disc in 1, threshold-1. Disc mode, no tracking.

I have run mine in freshwater some. Have run in heavier iron sites too on dry land. My advice if iron moderate to heavoer run 18khz. I haven’t played with salt setting in iron just yet. This week I plan on doing though, Sens 7 in iron could be a bit hot. For me anyway. I like 6 better. Maybe if I hunted a place and hadn’t done much good I may go 7 on the sensitivty.
Re: ON THE HORIZON = MDT-8000

What are the tells of deep iron.......what have you found? Running in AM.... the machine is deep.... and fast. Near targets come on initially in the low digits but change the better you center the target. I like the way iron at least wraps around to the high digits...... unlike the Nox. So you can run that notch when going into disc. That tends to slow down the high pings over a non-ferrous target. If the digits continue to be reading high...... most of the time its really deep iron. But .... if you get digits dropping say in the penny range ... even a few its a tell to me.... ive found deep nickels and copper this way. Im still not sure im not walking over targets by moving to fast and not slowly listening to deep targets. Maybe switching phones to those with speaker which gives little difference in tones from weak to near targets would improve that for me. Those would have to be pretty deep targets from what i can tell thou. I scrub my coil so near iron reminds me of the CZ20..... you know you just passed over surface iron. Ive also found myself wanting to NOT dig a lot of targets beyond 14. because most of the gold ive found and tested falls in the 9 to digits..... with a few exceptions at 4 and 1... those being crosses and chains. A great many of the gold rings fell at 5 digit. i tested some pretty large gold rings. So for me there is a pretty good window to pay attention to if you are just gold hunting.
Re: ON THE HORIZON = MDT-8000

Aaron; yes. . . . I (so far) have found that running 'Salt' Mode around iron..... seems to give a bit better ID/resolution. This is to include inland/turf/dirt hunting. This also holds true with Black Sand Mode. But...… there have been a few times where this theory (and configuration) has not been true. I'm still seeking solid/concrete data...… then: the physics behind it. (The "why"...…. for present/future advancements). IF I 'understand' it...………… then...…………. I can (much) better apply it to real-world conditions..... much more readily (and successfully).
What's crazy is: There's a lot of DELIBERATE engineering that goes into a project; yet, there can be non-deliberate (unknown) side-effects in any design …..that present: attributes and detriments. Discover this. Then use wisely/accordingly.

Dew...…..... After 3-months; I finally have a answer for you. In a nutshell: The EQX loses 2.6" of depth on a Nickel with the coil submerged IN the saltwater...…. (versus the damp/wet-slope). It was the extensive amount of variables that made this time-consuming data: hard to acquire; hence, the 3-months. If the water was moving faster (horizontal velocity)..... there is greater depth lost. If the saltwater was splashing/crashing (via vertical velocity); a severe amount of depth performance is lost. Early morning(s) allowed a better chance of the ocean to present a bit more calm conditions...….. for the reduction of 'variables'...… so as to ascertain (overall) better aggregate collected data. . . . . . . . for greater/enhanced source-validity. This 2.6" number...…. is a mean-average. You will see/witness this more-so..... than I.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,. due to your West Coast Florida bathtub conditions.
(((Probably stating the obvious))): The more 'calm' the saltwater: the greater the detection performance.
I have not tested the MDT yet (another large chunk of time-impositions)...…. to see how much depth it loses on a Nickel 'in-the-splash'..... and 'IN-the-water'. I know it does not lose as much depth/performance...…….. as you, Cliff, Tom & Larry have so discovered; via multi-scoop requirements; yet, I do not have exacting numbers. What we do know (now) is: The SMF VLF IB motion-Disc platform..... loses substantial depth performance with 'moving' saltwater.

Deep into: Geophysics
Deep into: Engineering Lab

(((Yes. I too.... am anxious to see if any advancement/discovery(s) have been made ….. with the Manta/Impulse...…. from a (usable) technological geophysics/engineering standpoint))).
Re: ON THE HORIZON = MDT-8000
April 14, 2019 01:37PM
Wow....... great info Tom. IF .... it stays consistent then..... that could mean that 3 gram gold ring might only be found about 7" deep out there with the Nox.... and thats if its setting flat. Ive also got to consider your skills. Can i assume from what im getting neck deep with all the chatter on the Nox and a different salt setting on the MDT that salt content and water movement might just have the same affect as in the splash and long shore drift? Now i really need a calm day with some clear water....... got to bury me a ring lol. Ooops went back and you said 2.6 inches on a nickel...... at what depth out of the water was that nickel being found in the wet sand?
Re: ON THE HORIZON = MDT-8000
April 14, 2019 02:27PM
Tnsharpshooter- yes I’ve been running in the 18khz, trying to find chains & earrings.

Dew- running in am just isn’t reasonable here, maybe in some areas. I know what you mean IRT iron and high numbers, figured that out. What I’m finding with real deep iron is it comes off sounds like a good target low to mid twenties and as I get down to around 12” it starts changing into the high iron numbers. I’ll try double checking the deep targets in am, maybe that would help.

Tom- ok thanks.

Aaron....it might just be a matter of target position on your coil. As I move into a target it changes....like you said in the 2os maybe up scaling ....but the more the target is centered the better the ID. I had a tendency to wiggle targets to the front of the coils which didn’t always give the best/constant TID.

My experiences exactly, dew. The better you pinpoint and investigate the more accurate the ID is. Especially on the lower deeper targets. Sometimes when I’ve been out for several hours and I’m getting tired and ‘sloppy’ the IDs vary a lot. Operator error. She’s trying to describe what’s down there for me, I’m just not paying attention. That’s when I know it’s time to slow down or quit for the day.
