It's about time, but I figured there were no gold coins left after the sky diver landed.

Good on him. I have found three gold coins relic hunting. 2 with a Whites 4900 and 1 with a Nautilus. But I found a ton of low conductive crap when I had my Nox. Bad on me.angry smiley

I've got two $1 gold pieces in my time. One at a turfed park. It was holed, so I can't pull an exact year off of it. But the *type* is from the 1850s. Strangely, the date of the park dated to the early 1880s, at the earliest. So theoretically, it *could* have been a circulation piece. But then again, since it was holed, it could have been an earring.

I don't count jewelry (bezzled, etc...) as "coins". But in this case, I did count it among my gold coin count. But ... who knows ?

The other $1 gold I found was after beach storm erosion. Other coins from the 1800's were showing up in the same zone. This one had been made into a "love token". On the dated side. So again, no exact date. I also counted this in my gold coin count, since the practice of making "love tokens" was a contemporary practice OF THAT PERIOD. So I figured it was a "period loss", and counted it as a coin, not jewelry.

Correct. It is utter skill and machismo ! The machine has nothing to do with it. Haha smoking smiley

Let’s see.
Parks and other places Seems have been pounded with fbs/fbs2 types Detectors. Other detectors too.
Would a fbs/fbs2 type even hit a good dollar at 6” deep or 7” deep?
I haven’t tried or tested.

Wonder if we put Equinoxes in all metal detectorist hands and had them just dig targets for a year reading 7-12 on the meter.
Would any gold dollars be had or the elusive 3 cent piece made of nickel ?
Common sense tells me YES !!!

Just how many general purpose detectors have been tranmsiting at 20 and or 40 kHz and seems to punch mineral in the last 40 years?? And one that gives some above average accurate ID of lower conductors at depth.
I’ll let alll the decades old detectorists answer this question.

Someone (not me) on this forum stated Equinox 800 with small coil was deepest detector with small coil they had ever used.
This attribute too could help expose the gold $1 and the 3 cent prices made of nickel.

In other news everyone, a metal detector finds metal!!!!!

I already told Ole Tennessee over at Friendly's, my Eurotek Pro can get a $1 gold coin 6" down.

Yeah Chris.
And everyone here is using a Eurotek detector. Lol

Send your Eurotek to Daniel of Tn.
And let him compare his Equinox to it.

Completely laughable.
Deus with LF coil can’t even see all a Equinox does.
And many others too to include Etrac and CTX.
Re: What I have been expecting-Equinox finds gold $1 coin.

I don't need to send anything to Daniel of TN, I have an Equinox and I know the differences. I never said that the Eurotek can see everything an Equinox can, or any other detector. I know it can't, I have it on video. But I do know that it can see a gold coin at 6". Can it always see a gold coin at 6"? In trashy ground, nope.

My point was to make fun of yet another of your sensationalist posts. People have been digging gold coins for years, yet you post like the Equinox came along and did something no other detector has. But that's why i call you Willie Nelson, I think you're high a lot off of that Tennessee Green Grass and can't help it. Stay high brother, stay high.

Let’s see.
Equinox depth lower conductors—- above average
Equinox ability to ID more accurately deeper lower conductors — above average
Equinox ability to ID more accurately a colocated lower conductor near ferrous —above average
Equinox ability to handle emi— above average
Equinox ability for faster recovery in trash and iron -above average
Equinox ability to operate in higher mineral soil and report nonferrous as actual nonferous -above average.

A lot of above average attributes with Equinox.
Does another detector exist currently that does all the above above average???

Again I’ll let all the decades long detectorist answer.

No detector I have used does all the above above average except Equinox.

Cool, I guess if that's the point you were making it should have been in your original post. But I think you've already posted that dozens of times in multiple forums. You sure do like repeating yourself.

Notice the title of this thread. It’s there alright. And with fall and winter (green up) falling by the wayside we’ll get a better look say by Jan based on what’s found using. Folks are getting accustomed to their unit now.

I believe that the best chance to find a gold coin is with a new detector. Nobody knows exactly what the VDI numbers are so you dig. Later we get lazy. Cherry picking for silver.

One dollar gold coin is in the foil region...one wonders how many we passed over ...with any unit....

I think that statement sums it up Pretty well!

Most any decent metal detector will "detect" gold coins in avg ground conditions. It's making the decision to dig the target that falls in the foil, canslaw, tab range that is difficult, yet necessary, if you want to find those very rare gold coins, or jewelry.

How many were passed over indeed?
