Nox noise cancel
October 11, 2018 11:12AM
Here is another dumb question. How does noise cancel work with the Nox? Ive used explorers and the CTX...... all had noise cancel which worked very well. We even figured out on the Explorer and ET which end of the scale did what as far as freqs that would work best. But the Nox doesnt doesnt have channels with varied freqs although in the water it seems to be best if you are in the negative digits for me. I can also stand in the same spot and get a dozen back and forth digits. I know a few have tinkered with manual noise cancel..... have we found one that best serves working in the water? Am i to assume it changes some of those so called algorithms....... or is it nothing more than a minor freq shift? Or does it even work to do anything? When you first switch to the noise cancel..... if gives you a digit BEFORE you put that button..... is that what its currently in or is that what its recommending.....and once you push the button is that the same digit it gives you? Mine dont. The CTX had a very good noise cancel.... you could detect by anyone within a few feet. Anyone air test above the wet sand....... get the coil wet..... then air test again? Those digits drop to negitive digits...... like -6. How does salt water affect the air test?

I have wondered that also. I can stand in the same spot have coil in the air noise cancel get a 8 then wait 10 seconds noise cancel again and it will be -6 this time why so different in the same spot?

I kind of understand EMI is constantly changing. Use a DB sound reading app on your phone. But it appears very sensitive.....but maybe it’s a very slight freq shift that has very little to do with overall operation. Next... if the box is underwater most of my hunting time is there EMI....or just noise?

lift up the coil in the air, then hit the noise cancel button. I usually point the coil at power lines/houses then hit noise cancel

The manual describes it as slightly shifting the frequency. Which is a pretty dumbed down explanation since its a MF detector operating at supposedly 3 frequencies.
They do mention that each mode needs to be cancelled individually which makes sense. But does it slightly shift all frequencies?... I think I read that somewhere. Or does it shift the main or dominate frequency currently in use based on the selected detect mode?

Questions we may never get an answer to.

I appreciate all the effort that must have went into all of that but What question did all of that answer?

Freq seems is shifted on both Etrac and equinox when selecting different channels. And when noise canceling the channels selected is one of the cleaner ones. There could be more than one at any given time(location).

Also all freqs seems are shifted (can’t say how much for fresh one) on Nox when using multi freq.

Can also say Equinox seems to still perform quite good (during airtesting) even if one of the freqs while in multi is compromised.

I wasnt going to revisit this..... but. I wasnt asking about the ET..... and unlike the ET which has 11 channels and many harmonics to chose from and sift to the Nox doesnt. It can only shift to those freq available..... which is what 5? Maybe its like wearing my good luck underwear ...... but normally before i get in the water i hit it until i get a negative digit on noise cancel and the machine seem to perform better. Soooo we have all these neg and pos noise cancel digits popping up so it doesnt seem to work like the CTX.... or as good i might add.... an Xcal will drive it nuts and i can hunt nearly on top of an Xcal with the CTX. So ....is it changing the WEIGHTED freq ever so lightly.... which could affect how it does in the dirt or on targets.
