Any difference in performance or quality from a Los Banos made machine and the later ones ?

Ole' Keith Southern loved these Fisher 1236s. I bet He could answer all Your questions.

Yeah I just pulled the trigger and bought one but I think it's one of the later made ones, just curious to know if there is much of a difference.

He favored the Los Banos machines if I recall correctly. I had one of the El Paso ones and it didn't measure up to any of the data I saw posted for them. Mine with the 8 inch coil, was barely 8 inches on a dime in an air test. In ground it wasn't close to that.

I was afraid of that. The number on the bottom of the control box is S/N 12230254, can't read the rest of the label. Pretty sure the ones made in Los Banos say so.

I think that you will find it a very good detector where ever it was made.

Lets not jump the gun until you get it and try it.....Have seen hot and cold units on the later models....

You might get lucky and get a Hot one. Even First Texas can make a Hot one every so often.
I have a FT CZ-3D that will do 12.1" on a dime. Its hotter than most Los banos models. They are not all lemons.

The CZ’s were a problem initially, because of calibration issues - a dozen or so pots to set.

I doubt the 1235’s presented much of an issue for El Paso to produce. Same machine, same parts.

Variation in performance between machines, given their age, the coil, you name it - are likely a much bigger factor than any differences attributable to which plant they were producers int.

After reading what Kieth Southern said about the 1236 I think it would make a great park detector. I hunt in a very old park.

I have the El Paso one and with the 8" coil in my mild ground it would hit my 9" test dime.

I would be very happy if I get 9 inches on a dime. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Yep 9" ain't bad for a 8" Coil analog. My Hot New Tone Golden uMax with 8" Coil Will get a hair under 10" on a dime with the proper high tone. And They say Goldens ain't hot. Ha!

The one I bought has the 10 inch coil on it, not sure how it will do in the trash and nails with the bigger coil, but I'm gonna find out.eye rolling smiley
