Just to be a PEST - Tesoro’s i have owned

golden saber - found lots of neat stuff in Norway - including a good deal of silver - both coins and jewelry and a lovely silver bladed fruit knife.

compadre - used it in Oman - light, stealthy - found old coins and stuff

sidewinder - the original micromax

Inca - fun playing with one of the first

Original lobo - bought on a whim - with 3 coils - Reg Sniff sent me details on a neat mod

lobo super trac - compared it to other nugget machines - held its own

Eldorado - I no longer remember if it was the micromax or original

None of them ever broke. When they went “beep” there was a target

RIP Tesoro. No business lasts forever.

Thanks!

Forgot the Amigo and Bandido II.

Only one I ever had to send to Prescott was the Lobo - needed the special skinny battery holders and wanted a new faceplate - done for a few $$ and a nice conversation with Rusty Henro (not short - no conversations with Rusty were short - or without valuable content)!

It's not what you find - It's not what tools you own - it's the pursuit of "el tesoro" - the treasurel - the pursuit being a combination of expectation, experience, exercise. calculation and - sometimes reward.

I found the simplicity and directness of Tesoro's machines to have a sort of immediate connection between seek and find - a connection that I enjoyed.

The greatest detectors in the history of detectors - no.

But clearly, their passing - if in fact they are gone - is the passing of an era.

I found simple jewelry - lost or hidden- at the site of the destruction of an Arabian town by the Ottoman forces of the ruler of Egypt - Mohammed Ali in about 1814.

I found copper scraps from smelting of ore in Sumerian times (about 2000 BC) at a mine and refining site in Oman

I found the nut I lost off the end of an important bolt on my vehicle in the sands of the desert (nice to have a metal detector when you are 50 miles from a paved road in the sand).

I will miss Tesoro - even though - truth be known - I never bought one of their machines new...

That's the killer...metal detectors work - too well - too long.

Minelab is figuring that out. High performance - Non repairable, complicated, buy, use, replace.

Tesoro didn't understand that - lifetime warranty - what commercial foolishness. But then, in those days - we had different ideas about what constituted business integrity.

They will be missed.

Lobo ST Rick..

Still a serious unit..

To me the Gold Bug line from FTP was a LOBO ST with a meter.

Of course Dave had his hand in both

I still got 2 lobos and will keep them as long as I can detect.....fastest recovery in Tesoro world maybe as deep once retuned as a Goldmaxx power.

Never had an issue with any Tesoro that I owned, other than leaving the batteries in my Stingray, which killed it dead.
They were made to last, the way things used-to-be in the USA, and Jack was proud to stand behind what he made. So
most people never had reason to send anything in for the warranty work.

Here are the Tesoro detectors that I have owned and used -

INCA ; Toltec 100 ; Stingray ; Eldorado (Metal) ; Tiger Shark ; Golden µMax ; DeLeon

An older Vaquero found me the most valuable piece of gold I have ever found to date, It was a 15 gram 14K mens ring with a big turquoise stone set in it. Got 400 bucks for that ring, the Vaquero paid for itself with one hole. I have had the Compadre, Silver Umax x2 , Vaquero x2, Tejon, Golden Umax, Outlaw, Mojove, Silver Sabre, Cutlass Umax, Amigo x2. I don't currently own one but I'm sure I will again, Just can't pass up a good deal on a Tesoro, they are fun to use and they seem to last forever aside from the fact that a lot of them are very easy on batteries. Maybe they are too well made, out of all the ones I listed I didn't buy any of them new.

Owned many models but always remember the Toltec 100..lead on a stick...found a 1839 seated dime at old meeting place five inches deep standing straight up in the plug.
Area had been pounded by many but the Tesoro came thru,,,

If you like Tesoro detectors (I do) you should try one of the DeepTech Vista's. They are an awesome machine.
