That is simply awesome. Truly wonder what the circumstances were of the dimes being holed and ending up in the ground like that. The remains of the fire may throw some light on it, but who knows for sure.

Big congrats Brian!!

Nice!!

Awesome!

Congrat's

Not just simple coins but true artifacts now!

Seems to be square nail punched and some are double holed side by side..somebody was using them for something flashy!.The Double holed ones make you think sewn on for clasping,, the single makes you think riveted for decoration..My mind runs to the image of a high plains drifter gunslinger, fancy holster and adorned cowboy hat with silver coins one for each of his kills..the last thing they saw was his gun smoke.

Yeah you never know and its surely a one off type setup it was on I'm sure.Could of been Indian for sure ..But I like the desperado angle better !!

Cool no matter what, priceless piece of Americana

Well well well. There's a nasty rumor afloat that someone just made "banner" on a "certain" forum. Now that this person has tied me (4 to 4 on banners), I wonder if he will demand to be addressed as "sir" now ? Will he detect with mere mortals now ? Will he demand that I carry his digging tools and dig his holes ? Will his head fit through doors now ? How much does he charge to autograph other people's metal detectors ? confused smiley

So many questions ,,,,

Thanks! Yes it's quite an interesting mystery, I'd like to hope it wasn't something tragic that caused their loss, but given the political climate between the govt and Indians at the time, it's quite possible it was.

Hey Gregg, well the year is almost over smiling smiley But yeah, I'm afraid many of our Nevada sites are snowed in until spring. Have to head to warmer grounds. Thanks for taking a look, hope to meet up with you guys again, sooner than later!

Tom we can't all be like you spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I'm happy to remain as is (ok, a new diet wouldn't hurt), and I'm even more happy just to out detecting these days... besides I got rooked on a banner there with my 1860-S seated quarter - LOL

J/K, it's all good.

Wow Brian. I'd say your wife gave you a great birthday present!

Hope to watch the video tonight. Could well been ceremonial tinkle, Or could have been cash. Or might have been saddle flash.

Endless enjoyment for sure.

Thanks Mike! Hard to say, but given the context of the site, and some of the other finds we've made around there, I'd say there's a good chance it was ceremonial type bling.

Massive congrats on an incredible hunt! Considering the burning, iron, and other targets I would follow the suggestion of others and set up a screen to physically search all the dirt in that spot.

Those holes are perplexing. It would make more sense it they had tiny holes near the edges to hang as bangles, or if they all had 2 small center holes to make buttons. But with them having a large, crude, center hole, I'm trying to wrap my head around how that would have been used

I watched the video last night. Is a bit of a mystery isn't it? Hope your research can solve it.

Fun stuff.

It's an oddity for sure. I have some ideas to recheck the site next trip, screening is a possibility, but I also think running the Equinox in Prospecting mode and then in single frequency 40kHz may produce a few more finds, if there's anything to find there. I was also thinking it might be worth digging a 10x10 pit down past the burn and see if there's anything revealed. Heck could even be worth a spin over that patch in 5kHz, who knows, perhaps they did hole a gold coin or two tongue sticking out smiley

Mike it really is. Like silverfiend said, if they were tiny holes on the edge, that could suggest some usage, but with crude one and two holers, it's hard to say. I do believe given the context of the site that they were likely some kind of later Indian trade silver type jewelry. Perhaps there's more to learn about this site.
