Is the Equinox so complicated that one needs multiple books to understand it?

If it wasn't for your forum name/initials I wouldn't have known that you are the author. I don't own a ML-EQ...if I did I would consider purchasing, thanks, Clive.

Here is a crazy idea how about using your detector to learn it.
if you need 4 books and a manual to figure out your detector
maybe detecting isn't for you.
I hear they have lots of books on stamp collecting.

I just saw this and promptly ordered it. It certainly is not for those of you who are no longer interested in learning or believe no one knows more about detecting or the Equinox than you do.

I consider myself reasonably proficient, but if I can learn something that makes a difference in finding even one more gold ring or silver coin then the cost of this book is well worth it.

I have many of Clive's books and always find them very readable and quite worthwhile.

I think if Tom put out a book on advanced detecting with the Equinox I'd defo buy it.

I directly attribute my success at consistently finding gold to one of Clive's books.

I've got 6 of Clive's books. They've got some good info in them, helped me a lot when learning to use a PI on the beaches. The Equinox books are good too, he goes way beyond the basic adjustments.

Joe, there must be some mistake. The Excal is YEARS and YEARS old- it cant find all that gold and silver like the latest hotness can!

Canslawhero,

This one book really made a difference......DFX Gold Methods: Finding Gold Jewelry with the White’s DFX “E” Series TM Metal Detector” book by Clive Clynick

He also has a book called....The Gold Jewelry Hunter’s Handbook: Finding Lost Gold at Beach, Park and Shoreline Metal Detecting Sites by Clive Clynick

But the "DFX Gold Methods" book really turned on the light.

Hard to believe the Excal is over 20 years old and still one of the best water machines out there. Sooner or later something has to come along and replace it, you would think.

Some of the great readings from Findmall over on the Sovereign / Excalibur forum. In it's day much like here now with Tom at the front........ teaching and sharing.

Many Great minds shared over there thru the years.

Well, that is one perspective. But, there are many things that have books written about them, that are quite simple to use.

For me, reading about detecting is also fun, not just productive. I remember reading the Andy Sabisch books on the E-Trac - Yeah, they helped more than a book on the Equinox, imo, but, they were fun.
So, I hear you, but I think it depends on the person. I still have my Equinox books and haven't opened them. But when I want some entertainment or to look deeper into a topic, I'll crack them open.

Everybody learns differently. When I got my Spectrum XLT I constantly read and re-read my user manual. The first year I had several "aha" moments. Based on CJC's success I would buy his books on the Equinox if I owned one, which eventually I will and will.

Thanks Tom. I just think that when you have a solid understanding of things like Modulation, Gain, Signal Balancing and Iron Bias--a lot of things that were confusing before fall into place. The book is not meant to be a substitute for time in the field--more of a template for testing and adapting under your conditions. cjc
