Care to explain or are you simply stating that because FT want to make money
off the unit having to go back to the manufacturer for updating etc?

A huge headache for International buyers_Still FT has a target market and its
obviously not for those who also want simplicity when it comes to ASS (after sales service)

Still, it looks like a formidable detector and has also proven itself in the field so only time will tell

Lets hope its the start of things to come and I am hoping Teknetics can release something soon too

The first F75 was super hot. But when everybody started whining they neutered it. You know something's wrong when you get one that's half green and half black. Gotta run someone is knocking at my door. Oh look Cal it's a large brown box.

Hope it's not like the Garrett Infinity PI .....so called Iron check..... what a waste ......at $ 2500 that would piss me off.
Re: Fisher's soon to be released machine... Interesting!!!

If you are asking if it’s like the Garrett ATX iron check, it’s not like that at all. The AQ can make iron disappear or make it give a low tone. You can also run it in all metal, The iron ID effect is adjustable. The loss of depth is similar to some VLF’s where all metal is deeper than discriminate. LE.JAG stated somewhere that it was in the range of 10%. Field tests will no doubt document this well.

The AQ at something around $2000 - $2500 is not a joke. Neither are these.

GPX 5000 - $3999 MAP

GPZ 7000 -$7999 MAP

[highplainsprospectors.com]

All of them are machines with one purpose in mind - finding gold. No extra points for guessing which of these three machines is likely to find the most gold in a year in North America if used for its intended purpose. There is a far greater chance of the average beach hunter finding a couple of ounces of gold jewelry in a year than a hobbiest prospector finding a couple of ounces of gold nuggets in a year.

The only remaining discussion would be whether there is a detector which costs significantly less than the AQ which would find more gold in a year at the beach than the AQ. AS far as I can see there is only one candidate. The Equinox. Time and the experience of expert beach hunters will tell if the AQ’s premium over the Nox is justified by a significantly higher return in the form of gold.

$2500.00 for a discriminating PI is a bargain...IF it performs as advertised or better than what is currently offered.
I have paid for my GPX (and all its various coils) and my SDC many times over in found gold. This mahine would be no different.

Personally, I have no interest in the AQ. If the Terra model, though, can perform close to a GPX and has a decent disc circuit...I'm all over it.
If Fisher has created discriminating PI that performs well then other manufacturers can't be far behind. Which is good for all of us. Competition drives advancement and lower prices.

Rick where would you put the MDT 8000 in comparison to the Nox in returns from the beach?

I wonder if it will be able to bust through that Ole' hot ground Daniel and Keith Southern has?
Re: Fisher's soon to be released machine... Interesting!!!

I have used the AQ for two days, without any instruction, relying on what I had seen in the older videos and my experience with previous PI’s Ihave owned. I have no first hand knowledge of the MDT8000.

From what I read of the MDT, there is a lot of adjusting to do. The AQ is pretty much turn on and go. You can noise cancel of you want, but that is only for EMI, has nothing to do with the ground. Otherwise just choose either all metal or one of the two iron ID modes, set the degree of Iron Mask if you are using one of those modes, SAT and Threshold if you need to change them from the last use - and beautiful quiet over any part of the wet or dry beach or in the water. That was my experience at least.

It also worked inland on our 2-3 bar (F75) dirt in the all metal and iron ID modes. No guarantees that it is good for extreme ground.

Here’s me at Coronado with the Nox and the AQ and poking around in the dunes near Yuma on our way home from San Diego. Worked fine there.

And to put this into perspective how light this coil is.

As you well know, Harold, most PIs handle that type of ground much better than a VLF or SMF. So, let's hope that it can. From a serious prospecting perspective, if it can't handle hot ground close to or on par with a GPX, it's DOA.

Not “DOA” (Dead On Arrival), it’s “DFOA” (Designed For Other Adventures).

It has been optimized in every respect for finding gold jewelry at beaches. Not for prospecting, not even for diving.

Will it function effectively where extreme mineralization require GB beyond it’s designed capabilities? I think we will know soon enough, but my VERY limited use of it inland suggests that it will.

This acronym DFOA, I don’t think I have ever seen used before.

Rick,
Please note I said, " from a serious prospecting perspective". I was referring to the Terra model not the AQ model as Harold was questioning about it performing in hot ground from a land based perspective. Perhaps, there will be some overlap and the AQ will perform well on land as well.

I get it Dean, It wasn’t to jump on you, it’s just that the DOA thing kind of tickled my warped brain a bit - a little bell went off!

I agree, if an Impulse TE (Terra?) appears, it will either be a relic machine with caveats about use in places like Australia or a real nugget hunter and then it would have to do the biz of coping with any terrain the GPX or ATX can. In that case will it be able to retain useful ferrous ID? If anybody actually knows the answer to that question, they are not about to tell the likes of us!!

I'm really hoping that the Terra will perform well. It certainly sounds promising from the relic standpoint!

Nah, it’s just a nice “bush hat” style hat I picked up at a garage sale for $1. Actually belonged to a friend of mine, but then I said some nice stuff about him and his head swelled - his loss, my gain!

I’m pretty “close clipped” these days and I don’t go out much without a hat. Funny that, my dear old grandad, tenant farmer to his brother in Medina County TX for most of his life, used to give me hell for going out without a hat. Guess he knew what he was talking about.

Good story on setting your friend up to gain a hat.
Back in the day it really was a "hat" and not a cap---my Grand Father and uncles never wore anything but a real hat and never left the house without their "cover".

I would like to see Ole' Keith Southern get one and bust through that hot ground He has and pull out some of that deep Reb brass that reads iron on VLFs.
