Been keeping my eyes peeled for a few years now. Check the five known dates whenever I get them, none yet.

Ha Ha Ha! Neat tid bit of info there David. Henning had a fixation of the number 5.

Anyone come across the coin value for these counterfeit nickles?

A couple years back I believe they were going for $30-$50 on fleabay but I haven't checked lately.

Funny that they have more value than any non-error genuine circulated Jefferson nickel in the same condition.

I've dug ton's of nickels and never knew about Hennings, I would almost say I've dug more nickels then pennies since the older beach's here in the Chesapeake Bay had Nickel slots and games of chance.

Now I'll be watching everyone...

I found one in pocket change when I was was a kid coin collector in Phila around 1970. I still have it.

It is not a convincing fake at all. Looks indistinct and "greasy" and would definitely stand out among a group of nickels.

The folklore is that Henning dumped his illicit stash in the Cooper River in Camden, right across the river from where I lived. I had childhood dreams of going over there with my prized Bounty Hunter I BFO and finding some.

I read this thread in hopes that today's value would snag me a new Deep Tech X but, alas, it seems it is only worth what a Chinese counterfeit Garrrett pinpointer costs!

J-Rob,
Maybe you have one of these nickels. This one might be sold and more than a few DeptechXs purchased.

Back in the middle 70's while working delivering newspapers and at the carwash, I would grab any silver coinage mixed in with the clad coins. Always found lots of 1939 Jefferson nickles, had rolls of them.
Who knows if a Henning was in the mix.

DeepTech Vista X with 3 search coils.
Works for me
