Those quick short sweeps are what you do after you've determined you want to take a closer look. When testing separation you need to use a normal sweep pattern. I typically use 1m/s and set the tempo with a metronome. In the 2nd video at 1:43 I see that CB does 3 slightly broader sweeps over both the nickel & b/c and there is barely a chirp. If that's not enough to make you pause for a closer look, then increase separation until you get a response that will make you pause.
