first detector, Garrett ace250. First day, took it to an uncle's once public freshwater beach, now private...i THINK the first silver was a rosie, but that afternoon I got silver rosie, merc, washington quarter, standing quarter, 35% nickels, probably 30 silver coins in over 200 coins dug that first day

No sir...one of my best finds was within the last 2 weeks. 1787 period counterfeit Spanish copper coin. The crazy thing is, I have dug more large pre 1800 copper coins than I have Indian cents. My guess is that once the foreign coins finally became non-accepted currency in the U.S., they were given to kids to play with, who then all lost them in the yards, whereas the 1800s U.S. coins were in general kept better track of by all family members. Just my thoughts.

Although...yes, I would love to come home with a bucket of silver every trip smiling smiley

It was 2011 and I had been looking for my first silver coin for 6 months at that time.

I had a Tesoro Compadre and it found a 1942 Walking Liberty half dollar in the left corner of my front yard in Chattanooga, TN.

....so should've played the lotto that day in hindsight.

My first silver was a1964 JFK half found in the Cody, Wyoming Elk's park. My journal records it was found March 4, 1973 with a Heathkit that I had assembled over the winter. A rather humble beginning to a lifetime hobby.

Found my first silver, a 1959 Quarter (same as my birth year) with my brand spankin' new RadioShack (remember those guys?) Discovery 3300. Still got it and use it regularly. The thing is a coin magnet ('specially dimes...don't know why). It'll get a dime before any other coin. Really hits hard on 'em. BBJ

Whites 2DB back in 1979. Think the coin was a 50’s Rosie. Haven’t posted here in ages but do read the forum. Just not very active as I once one but if I retire within the next year hopefully that will change.

First decent silver was an Australian .925 Florin with the Vaquero and stock conentric coil. It was the detector I credited for learning to detect purely via tones and have been doing so ever since.

I honestly can’t remember as far as silver coin which model.
I know which found my first wheathead.
A white’s V3i.
And the second whesthead I dug using it was a 1909 model. No VDB though. Shucks. Lol

If I had to guess which model found my first silver I’d say Etrac. Not sure though.

It wouldn’t this radio shack thingy I bought back in the late 80s, I know this much.

My first detector was a Relco. Can't remember what coin but it was great at picking up larger targets like my fathers car or our refrigerator! I can't remember if it was that one or the Heathkit that made a sound every time it touched a blade of wet grass!
