Does this hatch lead to Hitler's lost riches? Treasure hunters discover entrance hidden beneath a tree that they believe leads to bunker where £250million Amber Room is stashed

reminds me of the supposed treasure of Yamashita. People muse that every discovered cave, every squiggle on a rock, etc... "might be the treasure of Yamashita". It's gotten so that you can literally buy treasure maps on street corners there. Doh ! So too has Germany been had scores of such musings for a multitude of sites. All of which come and go.

I loved this line : "Treasure hunters also need permission from the government before they can start digging, but the museum hopes this will be granted by the end of the month. "

Now you know what will happen, don't you ? The Govt. will say "no". And then this will become all-the-more proof of the existence of Nazi treasure there. Because .... certainly ... that only means that the govt. wants it for themselves, eh ? eye rolling smiley

What ?? You mean that you don't think Nazi treasure was on that tunnel/train ?? It's most certainly there. Just : A little deeper. Or a little more to the left. Or a little more to the right. And so on till infinity. Tsk tsk.

"Until the tree is cut down, there is no physical possibility of opening the entrance."

That tree looks like it could be pushed over. It certainly could have been cut down in the time it took them say the sentence above. I suspect a month from now, they'll still be talking about how the heck they're gonna get that tree out of the way.

Indeed.
After careful reading of the article, what I gathered is that they "...found a hatch. Which COULD lead to a tunnel, etc."
I suppose it could just as easily lead to a root cellar, or nothing at all.

News sites sure love their clickbait...

That doesn't mean there wasn't any treasure. It means : a) a little deeper. b) a little more to the right or left, c) the treasure was there, but someone must have already come & dug it up before, d) durned those Japanese decoy markers and clues, that were set there to throw future would-be TH'rs off the track. e) Durned those Japanese boobie traps that cause tunnels to flood, or cave-ins, etc...

But .... at no point, is there , or was there, not most certainly a treasure there.

The evidence can never point away from treasure. It always has to point TO treasure. In fact, the more dry holes you dig, is simply all-the-more evidence of treasure. Because that simply points to the ingenuity of the Japanese (Or oak island or lost dutchman, etc...) to have buried it so deep you can find it. And to have set out all those decoy markers/caves to "throw you off track", etc...

As you can probably tell, I say all this in jest. But believe it or not, I have actually had long dialogues with Yamashita treasure faithful, who will stick by these explanations. It's incredible how much "treasure fever" causes some people to abandon common sense.

maybe so, however it is the success of the few, that keeps their dreams alive

and at the end of the day, wouldn't you rather be working in your dream job?

some people have stumbled across some amazing treasure just by going
out looking for the odd coin or two. Therefore it is certainly possible that if you
are looking for one particular treasure, you may well discover another.

The Philippines has an extensive history and where Yamashita was executed is
not only significant in the treasure you speak of but it also steeped in Spanish history.
I know some people still bury their valuables on their allotments etc

However I do understand the point that you are making regarding the never end
requests for funding etc for many of these treasure scams - winking smiley

Yes. You're right. There's been many md'rs who thought they were about to dig a hubcab or aluminum can, and .... bingo, got a cache. Or const. workers and ditch diggers or building demolition guys who stumble onto goodies. Sure. And you'll notice that these classification of caches you describe, are not the "legend" class. Eg.: Oak Island, Yamashita, Pearl shop, Lost dutchman, Dents Run, etc....

So the fact of various caches around the world getting found periodically, does not lend credence to the genre of "ghost story camp-fire legend" category ones.
