Clive,
I have all your NOX books and have read them repeatedly. There are so many things to try in the search of managing the NOX the best, it can be overwhelming. I have taken to taking a ‘system improvement’ from the texts and going to where I detect and perform some testing. This has helped.

For instance just the idea of a sound that is not ‘bitty’ and instead rounded, peaked and more solid (to borrow some words) was impossible until I compared a dime size piece of roundish aluminum can with my ‘target’ test half reale. Then I could hear the difference, still cannot explain it in words tho. It also demonstrated how old silver display numbers might change with corrosion, wear and depth. A sucessful reale hunter told me the numbers seem to come in lower and he had just found two small brownish reales that came out of the eroded dunes some years back.

I hunt salt Florida beaches for relics, brass ship spikes, nails and of course a yet to be found reale of any denomination. To practice reales, I quartered a silver dime and use that on the surface and in a dug hole, pressed into the side. At best of times I can get 8 inches on the NOX using a variety of settings learned in your books.

Any suggestions on anything I can do to improve? A focus on a certain book or section?

Best regards
Keep up the good work. I guess Manticore will be in your future as well.
