I had one back in the day for about 2 years. It was good at trashy old parks with the 5.3 eclipse coil. Pulled a lot of Barber silver out of one old park with it. Its just not the deepest machine. That was the reason I moved on to CZs.

Honestly Harold you should have moved to a Explorer back then and climbed the ladder to a eTrac,,,,,Those machines will run circles around the CZ and DFX on silver. Seems to me both of those machine were obsolete with the release of the Explorer and eTrac.
Re: Whites Dfx for sale make offer

That was a steal rite there regardless.
I actually did get an Etrac. The Explorer was just so new then and not cheap either. I never even heard of Minelab until the Explorer. Whites and Fisher were the American made standard back then. I did not know enough about Minelab. Not many did back then.
I am not sure I would have had the patience to learn the multi tones also. I know now once you learn them it is awesome. But I also have found coins with my CZs that even the mighty Explorer missed so no machine gets it all Ole' Cal.

Nice deal you made on the DFX. Stay cool out there either fishing or hunting. It's brutal here in NJ !

We need a nice 1-2 day, steady calm rain. All we get are these crazy thunderstorms now.

Can't even beach hunt (not that I do in the Summer). Can't wait until the Fall weather gets here. I am a Summer, warm weather guy, but this is nuts.

I have never used a DFX but that was a great deal. I also have never used an Extra or Explorer, they were/are too expensive for my budget. I am sort of an all around type Hunter, coins jewelery and have always read that the Etrac & Explorer were good and deep on silver but not sure if they are any good at jewelry/low conductors. I also wonder what makes them so deep. Not trying to hijack the threat just had me curious.

Steve,

I have been using a CZ6a since they first came out, as well as an E-Trac since they came out (still have my original Irish made E-Trac).

I prefer the CZ over the E-Trac, but that's just me since my ears and brain are more tuned to that unit, as well as me salt water beach hunting a lot and the E-Trac is less environmentally sound in that arena as opposed to the sealed CZ6a.

For hunters that first pick up an E-Trac and start finding deep silver, I think the ability of the E-Trac (and Explorers) to 'sound off' better on deep silver (aka, getting that high pitch squeak among all those other wonderful sounds the E-Trac/Explorer make), makes it more obvious to the hunter to stop, listen and investigate.

I don't think, at least for me, my E-Trac is any deeper on deep silver than my CZ...but I have hunted with my CZ for decades so I know it. My CZ may bounce more between the low tone iron signal and the high tone coin signal, on deep silver, but I pretty much know when to dig and not dig. Also, one needs to know the spots they are hunting, and if deep silver is there to be found, then the deep signals for the most part should be dug regardless.

The one thing the E-Trac/Explorer series has over the CZ is in mineralized ground. The FBS technology as well as the DD coil design makes it a better fit.

In mild ground or salt water beach hunting, I will take my CZ6a over the E-Trac. I think the concentric coil on the CZ does a bit better job in my soil conditions, and like I stated earlier, the 6a is much better on the salt water beach for the simple fact if the salt water hits it, I have no worries. That and the fact it can be belt mounted or like I have mine, configured on a straight shaft mounted behind my elbow, it is much better ergonomically than the E-Trac.

Bottom line...they are both great units to find deep silver and coins.

Calabash that is not true the Explorer or E-Trac will not run circles around the Fisher CZ series detector. Have all 3 detector.

Oh here we go......would you say the majority of coinshooters prefer the Minelab over the cz for silver hunting? You old guys on here are about the only ones I have ever seen claim that type of crap. I am not gonna debate it if it makes you guys feel better to believe that fairytale then by all means go ahead

Sometimes I wonder if this forum shouldn’t be named the “Underdog Detector Forum”.

Just mention an old model. It will get loads of kudos.

Are these folks even using these older models? Some maybe.

Yeah, I have kept track.
You mention CZ anything.
A needle job White’s.
One of the Troys, you know the ones that make a person dig deep iron.
Yeah there are a few others.

Back in the day some of these were grand.

Time has passed.

Glue factory for many. Sorry.

Life is short. Ain’t got time using something when there is overall better option.

Can good finds be made by these glue factory models? Sure.
Loads of good finds made with Ace 250s.

But this is looking bigger pic wise where you have many more of the cheaper variety used world wide. This don’t reflect averages though compared to better performing detectors.

What you been detecting 2-3 years and you're a mister know it all.
Most of us old guy forgot more about detecting than you ever knew.
You use a detector in your yard for 15 minutes and woof @#$%& about it.
I've never seen you dig a target more then 6" in the field I could or anybody could find those finds with an Ace 250
Show use some deep target you keep bragging about you know 10-12" in the field show me that.
And yes anyone can detect a target in their backyard they have buried 10-11" deep let see real world digs at that depth.
Did I hear you bought a Minelab Excalibur what I thought that ancient technology was Obsolete it first came out in 1993. WTF Calabash?

That machine went for a steal. I had a tree cutting accident and have been out of work because of it (limb under pressure kicked back and caught me in the face, knocked a few teeth out of position. Had to have surgery for that) so I have been a little behind on play money.

Calabash is very straightforward in his videos. I think the biggest thing that gets under some people's skin is that he is out finding stuff because he hunts regularly while some that argues with him wont have their machines out but once or twice a year (if that). For some, posting on the forums and watching videos is the only detector related stuff they do anymore. Who has more experience....the guy that has been detecting for 30 years but only goes 4 or 5 times a year...or the guy that has been detecting 4 or 5 years and goes 4 or 5 times a week?
