Finland going down
April 03, 2020 12:18AM
Bloomberg news is reporting that Finland, one of the best funded socialist countries, is unable to meet its obligations---may be over a year before anyone receives anything. ATTENTION Bernieites.
Re: Finland going down
April 03, 2020 01:01AM
Some day I will have to educate myself on world finances. It seems every country is broke. Without starting a political argument i have to wonder what is the difference between unable to meet financal obligations and having a national debt of 22 trillion?

Doc, get better glasses.

The issue is not money, it is that the existing administration for unemployment Bennies can’t cope with the demand backlog. This from Bloomberg.

“ Money’s not the problem, Managing Director Sanna Alamaki said in letters to members sent through April 1. It’s “that the benefit applications can’t be processed and, consequently, money can’t be paid out quickly enough,” she said.”

I am here!!!!! Comparing Finland to the debt saddled USA is absurd. Attention: Soup lines right here! Everyone needs to remember the debt of the US was GIVEN to the wealthy by republicans. Right from the US treasury. ENJOY! But hey, the wealthy pay too many taxes, correct?

People who claim to be "Centrists/Moderates"....are, in most cases, anything but. In my experience, they lean way to the left. Same with the wishy-washy "Independents".

Thanks Rick--It was late and this was a blip in my email from Bloomberg---and who should believe Bloomberg. LOL

Doc, easy to miss a note in a flood of information.

As for other posts,I think unemployment insurance is a pretty “centrist” part of our social safety net. I suspect even the Tea Party (RIP) wasn’t against that.

By your line of reasoning everyone else then must be a Deep State conspiracy believing White Supremacist...

We're still here, but it's getting increasingly challenging to talk down the extreme left and right, actually it's become down right impossible, their all quite sure that the "other side" is out to get them, and won't even consider that their point of view may be flawed.

It's a very odd time in American history, with cult like followings at each extreme, extreme ignorance, lack of common sense, all exacerbated by the fluidity of social media as people legitimize their extreme views on the likes of YouTube, twitter, Facebook, etc.

You'd think the country would come together during this crisis of epic proportions, yet it continues to foster political bantering and some states that are still not taking this issue seriously, nor are a lot of individuals. Unfortunately it appears that until it hits home, for many it's "business as usual" and many naysayers are still turning this into a ridiculous debate.

Re-read my post slower and sound out the big words and you will (with luck) comprehend that I was relating "in my experience". There was no line of reasoning that needed to be followed in to Deep State conspiracy BS, etc ...it was a statement based on my experiences with people who claim to be Centrists/Moderates...nothing more.

Folks might broaden their exposure to facts and others’ opinions a bit,

Confirmation bias is a killer. Folks who only access sources which make them feel comfortable with what they currently believe to be true.

Every single change in public law in the US in the direction of protection of workers rights, and social security (with two small s’s) has been vigorously opposed by the folks whose bottom line would have to suffer a hit in order to finance those changes.

Saint Reagan - if I recall rightly - did ads long ago opposing Medicare as “Socialism”.

Or course he must have been right - none of us old f**ts on this forum would go along with Socialism - PS I know we paid, yada yada .. but that’s how it’s supposed to work - pay now, benefit later.. kind of like insurance.

You don't know what you're talking about. The reality is that democracy can exist until the people realize that they can vote themselves money from the public trough that they aren't entitled to.

The difference is the US has the worlds reserve currency and can print trillions at the blink of an eye.

Anyone who seems to think Bernie or any other socialist was in office it would be worse...think again. Trump is now the biggest socialist of all. No fault of his own, it's the way it is. Things had to be done. Does make me wonder why there was never an overhaul of the US health care system. The major cracks are showing now. But it's always about the all mighty dollar (or should I say FRN since we haven't had a dollar since 1913).

Don't think for 1 second the US is a free market capitalistic society. Far from it. My guess is the entire world is headed into a deep recession or worse...depression. How can it not ?

As far as what's the end game. 1 world reserve currency ? US paper/digital fiat currency (aka the Federal Reserve Note), evaporates as well as all others ? Look at history. ALL fiat currencies end up at zero.

On the virus front. There has to be a better way to test and turnaround results. Treatments will happen fairly quickly once the numbers stabilize and more testing is done. A SAFE vaccine...maybe a year out ?

Let us all pray and hope this thing peters out once the warm weather hits, more people get out in the sun, feel more comfortable moving around. But my guess is a majority of people (especially those in the hard hit areas and hot spots), will take more time before they feel any comfort level. Shoot...some may change their way of life for good...and for the better. Eat healthier, get in shape, wean themselves off medication or things that may be detrimental in their life, spend more time with family.

Gotta try to look on the bright side of all things in life.

You have a problem with unions too? You might want to focus on our treasury GIVING money away to the rich in this county, WHICH has buried this country in debt. OR are you saying this country's debt is because of the poor and middle class?
Re: Finland going down

The big picture of why America is going broke didn't happen overnight. For the last 100 years we have been drawn into 2 world wars defending other countries as well as fighting the incursion of socialism/communism in our own country as well as others.

Like Lenin said about "Useful Idiots". It is very expensive to fight the enemy, especially the enemy from within.
Re: Finland going down
April 05, 2020 09:11PM
Socialism doesn't seem to be the enemy. In fact when our country is in the most trouble it turns to socialism for the answer. Our current President as already mentioned has signed into law the largest socialism bill of all time. Welcome to the club America. Socialist capital of the world. Making America Socialist Again.

Kind of curious how the coronavirus came from communist/socialist China where the population is so poor they have to resort to eating wild animals such as bats, snakes and even domesticated dogs.

I guess in Venezuela and Cuba they are getting by on eating coconuts.

I dug a 1853 LC Saturday, that's my 5th for the year, it's funny how you don't dig one for a year, was on a nice sliver run, but they closed my beaches, about 100 in a year, I love this hobby

I see Georgia has opened its beaches. All i can say is my health is more important than being on a beach. I hope others out there think it through.

Oh and Mr Trump is many things. The easiest way to answer the question is to state what he is not.

A conservative or Republican
