Garrett Apex - Multi frequency salt water feature.....
May 15, 2020 09:28PM
Well I love the look of the machine as seen on youtube. I do think it falls short on two things. #1 - Why tough a multi frequency salt water feature but make it "rainproof"? #2- I see they are using the same stubby Ace arm cuff rod that is too short for a lot of users. Looks like I need to resurrect the Gizmos?

Kenny yes they did use the short shaft. I still have my gizmo, but is there any way to do a 3D copy of them? Cheaper and quicker if you could do it .. like out of black plastic.. I do like the way Garrett is going though.

I agree with the path Garrett is moving. However they shold have sent some test units to people that could "tell them like it is"
My Son has a 3D printing company and made me some plastic Gizmo's. They are great except there is no weight to them. This means no counter balance to balance the machine. So I believe I'm going to tool up and make 50 Gizmo's because I have at least 20 people waiting for them. It looks like the Apex will accept the Gizmo's? I won't know until I get one for myself to test.

I believe Garrett should hire taller engineers. Why haven't they caught on that the arm cuff is too short?

They are playing catch up and still have a ways to go...to Minelab. Vanquish ! Looks like a good ENTRY level machine...Wish they had went big and tried to make a NOX killer.
Re: Garrett Apex - Multi frequency salt water feature.....

I heard 500 bucks. That is not entry level. Looks like an AT series killer. But again....for 500 smackers waterproof would have been nice.

So you have this new Apex that can hunt salt beaches , but it can't take a dunk.

You have the AT series that can take a dunk, but can't hunt salt beaches.

You have the 2500 series that is top of the line in cost, but can't hunt with either one of these detectors.

I wonder....

I love the look of the Apex ..... however

US companies are still not learning from their consumers - It is an ego problem with US not to listen to people outside their design engineers?

It does not really instill confidence in the manufacturer if their ears don't work or they are not prepared to put some actual thought into the 'entire' product based off their R & D as well as important public feedback -

They screwed up their AT Max release by delaying it to fit volume control - this should have been one of the priorities of the Max if Garrett did indeed listen to their supporters -

Obviously they need NO help from the public and will continue to dictate to the market as opposed to conforming to it -

That is why survival in this industry is NOT just about releasing a detector with no soul - these days you have to make your customers/supporters feel like part of a team/family which some manufacturers have embraced while others have ignored & stagnated -

I think it's kinda amusing how guys talk about the equinox and minelab when Garrett comes up. I mean, it took minelab about 12 years to come out with anything to compete with the at pro. Sounds a little uneducated to compare those two companies on quality or demand

How much would you sell a plastic gizmo? If you have any available .

Almost positive The Apex (Pro ) will soon be released, which would be waterproof.
Re: Garrett Apex - Multi frequency salt water feature.....

Anyone who thinks a submersible version is not next is nuts. Think about it they have to sell the AT-Pros first as who will want them then? Come on guys you smarter than that. Boy if this was a Turkey or Foreign company some you guys be breaking your arm patting them on the back. Cryin' shame.

Three things
1. why not waterproof?
2. How deep will it detect?
3. How well does it do in iron & trash?
Re: Garrett Apex - Multi frequency salt water feature.....

The current Ace series aren't waterproof. Don't want to compete with the AT series which will surely get the multi freq treatment later. I'm most curious about recovery speed since it seems to be fixed.
Re: Garrett Apex - Multi frequency salt water feature.....

Looks promising and looks nice, I'll almost certainly get one.

Waterproof is not a big thing for me now, that always comes at a price anyhow that not everyone is going to be happy about either. I already have an AT pro, simplex and equinox, sure don't need another water machine - There is still something to be said for dedicated land machines. 1 area where I hope the new Ace will shine is a less convoluted menu system than the competition, and from the looks of all those buttons, looks like it will be just that.

This is one thing I've always liked about Garrett detectors. they tend to be very simple and intuitive with the way they set up the controls.

I don't get the Turkey love either it isn't anything we haven't seen before.

Haven't seen examples of "Turkey love" but then again, don't spend much time on forums. I think the simplex is a fine machine and whoever makes it deserves credit. It appears with mutil freq the new Ace will be a juiced up, USA made simplex, and its price point will be just about right for that. Seems there is less and less to distinguish detectors these days, they all seem to sprint for the same trends and are put out in response to competition. They even are looking the same. I dunno maybe its always been that way, never paid that much attention, but whoever gets the buzz gets the sales. I think Garret has a leg up just from looks, the distinctive black and yellow. Also the Ace legacy might give them a boost even though it has little or nothing in common with previous Aces. I like the looks of the screen, seems easier to read than most, might be a large factor since their main customer base is aging, middle aged guys with fading vision.
I also like the arm cuff which some guys rip on ,, I hope it has an easily adjustable stem like the simplex, that feature is a big hit with me.

I look at it this way, the Apex will sell like hot cakes, just like the ACE series already does. They'll recoup their R&D costs, fix any bugs, add improvement tweaks, and advanced features to spin off the waterproof APEX AT PRO. If they release it before Christmas, cha-ching spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Now if the APEX AT PRO is better than the Equinox....that's when things will get really interesting smileys with beer

With the exception of being submersible how do you know the Apex isn't as good or better than the Nox already?

that's just it ! we don't! it's why independent usage
and non-biased review is critically important

Even with unbiased reports, people will be skeptical and biased in reading those reports. It could indeed be an eye opening, super performing detector but some wont believe anything they see or hear about it, and refuse to try it because it's a Garrett. That's just how people are. It doesn't take much for people to be peculiar in their ways. Just look at how many got butt hurt/offended over the advertising Minelab did with the Equinox by using one key word: "obsolete". Some people made their mind up right then and there that they wouldn't buy or try one no matter how good it was. There were dozens of forum rants and tirades about it, mostly by the same people who apparently thought everyone should have their same opinion. They are all just tools. The only ground breaking newish thing to land has been the Tarsacci. Its been out over a year and the owners are still trying to wrap our heads around how it works and finding new things out about it.
