XP Deus WS5 question?

I have a question about a set of WS5 headphones I recently got. They are on version 5.21 they don't discriminate out unwanted targets like small pieces of aluminum cans or foil balls on top of the ground even with the discrimination ran up to 99. Is there anyone on here that has had a similar issue that can help me? Thanks in advance I have a 9" LF and 11" LF coil I've tried both but nothing seems to help discing out unwanted targets. I wish I had a remote so I could reload the update to see if that would fix it.

Are you using factory program, and raising disc?
Does malfunction occur using both coils (when each is paired)?
If yes to both questions.
You imo have a problem (likely uncorrectable by the operator). Reloading version software may fix. Can’t say.
Make sure you are using coil that is paired when testing.

I have tried it with both coils and they both won't disc out anything. I have tried all factory programs and it doesn't disc out anything on any of them.

Question.
Do you know for sure your coils and headphone module have same version software loaded?
Only thing I can think of that might cause.
To be honest. I don’t know what things go bonkers if module and coils had different version sorftware. I have never tried. If different one may not be able to do anything as far as using coil and module. I don’t know.
Wish you had someone close that had remote.

Junior 88,that was my machine as you know
.Both coils and headphones were paired with the remote, and I've used it quite a bit so all is on the same 5.21 version.. pulltabs have always rang up high on every deus I had,the deeper they were the worse it was. F19 also rang pulltab up as coins when they're deep.. but I ran that lite version too when I sold the remote,and the disc did work using either coil. There are expert settings in that ws5 ,are sure your not in those vs the actual disc mode?

I'm positive that it's not the settings I have tried any and all programs and they all do not have any form of usable discrimination. The only thing that works is running up the iron disc reject.

I understand that you will dig deep pulltabs but when you take a small piece of aluminum foil that rings up in the 40 vdis and run your disc up to say 70 and the tone comes through load and clear and it laying on top of the ground something is wrong.

You are confusing me.
Iron disc reject?
Deus has disc. Period. Yes disc can be used to disc out iron (depending on size and setting) and yes disc can be used to disc out nonferrous (depending on setting and depth of nonferrous).
What other disc are you referring too?

So your problem you think is with iron volume?
If so please explain what you think your unit is doing incorrectly.

Btw iron volume if turned ON unit will not reject iron. All the setting will do if ON is change level of tone of the iron when swept. Basically louder or quieter.

I am having issues with it discing out small pieces of foil and just about anything besides iron. No issue with iron at all.

You said the only thing that works is iron disc reject. So if adjusting disc is rejecting items (nonferrous) on top of the ground your unit is working correctly.
When you sweep an item, get coil close and note ID of target with disc set to 6.0. . Then adjust disc up slowly while sweeping. As you hit or pass slightly with your disc setting that matches what your target read vid wise, unit should go silent tonally.

I was discing out a nickel right before I sold that unit to scott, and the disc worked on the ws5.. I was waving the nickel in front of the coil cause I wanted to see wherea nickel would disc out,,,,when it did disc out I lowered the disc a few numbers so it allowed the nickel back in. So the disc did work on accepting and rejecting nickels.

I'll do a video and show you what it's doing. So you guys can see what I am talking about. It won't disc nothing out. It will reject a nail and that's it. You run your disc up to 99 and nothing is rejected not a nickel or anything.

You see that F in your module screen?
That denotes Full tones.
Get out of that and I think what you are experiencing will go away.

Nope I tried it in two tone 3 tone and 4 tones

Is there a 9.9 before you get to 10 on the disc, I can't remember, if so then you have a lot more disc left to go from what I saw when you raised your disc. It looked like you just got to disc of 10

Try it in 3,4 or 5 tones. I think TN is right

I gave bad info. Disc works on nonferrous using full tones. My bad. I checked using my unit.
If you can’t disc out a nickel swept close to coil using both of your coils. Got to be bad headphone module, Or bad version software some way.

Now,
If the unit’s disc function is working correctly for iron range. The unit is useable imo. Actually I never run disc up in nonferrous range instead I use tone bins (multi tones or full tones)
So all is not lost.

To check disc iron range for correct iOS.
Get a real small piece of iron.
A medium size nail.
And a larger piece of iron.
Expect disc settings readings of 03 on smaller to disc out tonally.
Disc settings of 04-06 to rid medium sized ferrous tonally.
Disc setting of 7-9 to disc out bigger ferrous tonally.
Things like axe heads these will wrap and come through so don’t base test on these kinds of items.

Scott hit the nail on the head I was setting the disc to 9.9 instead of 99. Thanks for your all's help.
