Yes clear, I really had no issues with excess noise in sensitivity 9 running threshold of 0 with Black sand on.

Tom, do you think there is any problems with target identification and having black sand on?

So the question might be, is it better to run wide open with black sand on? OR Run 7 sensitivity with black sand off?

It is a test I did not do.

PS for the wet sand I wish there was a sensitivity 10 and 11.
That nickel you speak of with the Equinox....maybe 3" and deeper.

Dave....... the variable is: Your specific mineralization. I would love to give you a clear-cut/dry/solid answer; yet, it is your specific mineralization level(s) that dictate if you are better running Black Sand "ON" and Sens 9. Or running Sens 7 and Black Sand "OFF".
I speculate Black Sand "OFF" and Sens 7............. but this would still require validating with a threshold-depth Nickel (or threshold-depth gold ring).

With regards to frequency Tom, what do you try to run in the wet sand/water? how much better is 12khz compared to 9 on gold? Thanks

Whilst on the wet-slope....... I'm always running 18Khz. This gives an ever-so-slight advantage on small/tiny gold.
IN the water....... I run 9Khz. . . . . . . . which also allows for a bit higher Sens and Thresh setting(s).

Then there are times that I want to do the slope AND the water. , . , . , . , . , . , going in and out of the water multiple times. I then simply stay on 9Khz.

Also......... I (now) will NEVER hunt the beach with the stock coil. Always the 12" coil. It is just as stable as the 11" x 8" coil; yet, goes deeper.
