Simultaneous multi freq, 4 -45 khz.
Wireless, waterproof, lightweight etc looks fantastic.
That just killed off interest in any other releases for me this year lol
Apparently price is £1450 with choice of 9"-11" coil, and Due for sale in UK in December.

I agree.
I was holding out for a Nokta but I liked my DEUS and they just added everything I needed.
Now I just need to find the best deal on one LOL and sell my NOX 800.

Try the tones buttons on the XP site, the square tones sound exactly like the Nox to my ears!

Bummer.

I must say this one seems to have the right amount of excitement for it; nothing over the top and flashy but just enough to make you take notice.

I recently read an article about DJI the camera/drone makers. Their biggest competition is of course GoPro and the DJI people said it best, with me paraphrasing...it's easy to be 2nd best when you play follow the leader. All you have to do is wait on the leader to come out with something new and innovative, then basically make your version/copy of that same thing. But becoming the leader is hard because you don't have anything to pave the way.

IMO it looks like XP is doing their own thing and not just making an Equinox clone.

No. For underwater, you will use the same setup as the Deus.

Does look interesting.

Yes, ghound, I agree, square tones are very Equinox-like.

Interesting.

Wouldn't the perfect balance point be best at the hand grip? .. unsure on what a commercial like that says.
Re: DEUS II
November 22, 2021 12:09AM
Like a T2/F75. You can balance with your finger on the hand grip. That shows it out of balance but light.
Re: DEUS II

Yep, perfect balance point would be at the handle. I didn't see anything referring to the "balance" of the Deus II -- did I miss it?

Re: DEUS II

the commercial says perfect balance .. then shows the deusII balancing midway up the shaft .. just thought that odd or meaningless.
Re: DEUS II

ScoTTT2 -- I was watching the video on the XP site, that ghound linked, and didn't see what you were referring to. THEN, I figured out that you are talking about the video tnsharpshooter linked.

And once I watched THAT video, I saw what you were referring to.

Yes, I totally agree with you that the video doesn't show us anything, in terms of whether the machine is actually "nose-heavy" or not. (It IS nose heavy, I am nearly certain; the only question is "to what degree"). Finding the "center of gravity" of something, and then setting it on a post, doesn't say anything at all about the ergonomics of the item!

As you noted, the balance point should indeed be at the handle, BUT -- you also can't test it "horizontal" like that, either, because we don't swing our machines horizontally. We swing them "at an angle," relative to the ground. And so, a "perfectly balanced" machine, with respect to ergonomics, is one that -- when lightly held at the HANDLE -- would sit naturally in proper "detecting position" (where "detecting position" means the same angle, relative to the ground, as it would be when you are swinging the machine). The idea is that you should not have to exert any force with your wrist to LIFT the coil (as is necessary when the machine is "nose heavy"), NOR should you have to exert force with your wrist to PUSH the coil DOWN (as is necessary if the machine is "butt-end heavy"). Instead, a "perfectly balanced" machine sits naturally in proper "detecting position" when held at the handle.

That video actually makes me chuckle a bit, as it really does show "nothing" that is of any use in terms of proving anything from an ergonomic perspective. But, obviously, the goal of marketing is not to get the physics correct, it is to catch the attention of potential customers and make them go "wow!" So, if that's what most people think, when they see that ad, then I guess the marketers were "successful." LOL!

I don't want to speak for Gary but I think that Video was just to knock some of the ZIP out of the Nokta release LOL.
He released it right after their Live Show. I just chuckled and didn't try to analyze it to much LOL.

Understood, LOL!

Though, it's hard for a scientist/shaft builder not to "zero in" and focus on the inherent "issues" with what is being suggested... LOL!

Steve I agree and want to add my opinion... Holding a metal detector is like towing a camper. Has to have some tongue weight so it can tow properly. The equinox biggest issue in my opinion is the grip angle, it's too straight and any weight on the coil end pulls the grip through your hand til the display body is resting on the hand. If it had a grippier surface or a slight angle forward it would help alot. Having to squeeze the grip is harder than letting the detector hang on the 4 fingers like a simplex can. I've seen many complaints of the angle. If the handle was more parallel to the ground while swinging the detector it should be alot better. The equinox grip has a slight up angle when coil is flat on the ground.also S-shafts help more which is why the deus feels perfect to me.

Interesting take. I have thoughts, but won't share them in this thread, so as not to derail the discussion...

I'll just say, S-shaft is on the table...
