What detector would you buy today

Assuming you didn't have one, but knew what you know, what detector would you buy today if you had the choice? Same thing you currently have or something different? I'm intrigued by the Deus 2. That may be the one that has my interest peaked enough to throw down some cash after a detector hiatus.

I have the ones I'm happy with, the Tarsacci and recently, the Deus2. . . . I'm set.

I never left from following. I just couldn't ever post here because my iPhone didn't like this site. I'm back with a Samsung now and no issues logging in.

I still don't have a place to detect other than my own property and the beach but the allure of finding old stuff never has left.

Tarsacci for hot dirt

That's an easy one to answer!smiling smiley-----CTX--Etrac--Legend--Deus 1 & F-19.-----MANY times that little F-19 with Super Fly coil beats 'em all--it's an amazing combo.
Re: What detector would you buy today

Thats a easy one for me to answer as well,i have alot of modern detectors, but since i stopped using my old original green T2 which i have had since 2007 my finds rate dropped like a lead balloon when i started using detectors like the Deus and Nox,but since i took the T2 out of retirement again my finds rate has shot back up again, this one detector has found me more gold coinage ie celtic gold staters, gold hammered and milled gold coinage than all my other machines put together.

The grass is not always greener on the other side, also my DFX has also come out of retirement again and one again that was my every day use detector for about 15 years and was one of the 1st batch here in the UK about 20 years ago.Must admit i am happy again using machines that i know inside out.
Re: What detector would you buy today

Wow! Someone on here not using the Mighty Nox or Deus? I must be dreaming, LOL!
Re: What detector would you buy today

As a pure Water Hunter, it will be tough to change from the Nox. The D2's off center coil and crappy detector rod is difficult to over come. I can not understand why detector companies off weight and off center coils.
Re: What detector would you buy today

Quote:"I cannot understand why detector companies off-weight and off-center coils."
Offsetting the coil ears is part of the solution to 'handgrip twist' , along with S-bend shafts. It's the reason people like the 'swing feel' of machines like the Tek T2. Another advantage is related to packing the machine. If ( like just about everyone ) you're not going to unbolt the coil completely from the shaft, but simply fold the coil up against the shaft, the total length is shorter for an offset-ear coil than for a centre-ear one.
But what works on land isn't always suitable for submerged use, as you say.

Re: the original question ...
Buying today, I would choose the Equinox, but only because it's successor's are not yet available.

Re: What detector would you buy today

Interesting so far! I would have thought the new Deus would have more interested parties. I came close to buying a Tarsacci with 12 inch coil several times but am hesitant. The Tarsacci with original coil worked well for me but if I ever decided to sell, the demand for them isn't as high as other machines out there. I liked the Nox but everybody has one now, especially at the beaches. I'm one of those guys that does like to go against the grain so to speak.

Hard to narrow it down to just one detector, all of my detectors have things I like about each one. I like using the older units and the newer tech ones, I guess that is why I have 10 of them hanging on my wall much to my wife's chagrin. smiling smiley

I'm with Coinspader except I only have seven! Well, eight. Pinpointers don't count right?

I'm working on that, midalake (at least, the shaft part...can't do much with the coil!)

Steve,
You may find this both interesting and helpful. Others too.

Nokta Legend is the best buy for the buck if waterproof is your thing, even if it's not it's still the best buy out there imo. Around $700 for a pro package if you talk to sponsors,,and it's a simultaneous multi freak if that matters .

I know you are Steve, but as we talked the ability is already there for handy people.

If you do get this solved, water hunters will benefit from your rod style and cam locking device. GL/HH

You should see my bass boat. I'm that way with fishing rods BUT my wife is just as bad. On my front fishing deck, there are no less than 10 rods/reels at any given time; all with different baits tied on. And baits...my boat is a floating Bass Pro Shop with lures haha. And when we go fishing for crappie, I have a whole other section of rods/reels just for them. Metal Detecting is cheap compared to fishing!!

Daniel,

Did you ever spend much time with the Nokta Impact ? I still like that one. It took me awhile to warm up to it and while I'm still enamored with my F75 LTD w/DST, the Impact grows on me the more I use it.

... of the oldies....Tesoro Lobo Supertrac.....did you ever spend much time with one of those? You have to mod it and add a ground balance control to the Disc side....but it is surprising how good it is with a variable ground control in Disc mode.

I know SMF is the all the rage today but I personally haven't seen one that I'd replace my V3 & Etrac with yet, though I'm hearing rumor's the Equinox 1000 might get close.

If I was going to get another PI unit, I'd probably pick the MDT instead.

Mike didn't you put a manual GB on a Golden uMax?
I thought I heard someone did but it messed with the tones? I was just curious as mine works good in my ground but thought I heard that somewhere, Thanks.

I think with an Equinox and a Deus 2 you'd be set up for most sites. If I could only have one I think I prefer the Equinox over the Deus 2 for the sites I hunt.
